Swans chat Suns Pick 1 for Buddy (Big Question)

Well time to start a rumor, or seed a thought.

Buddy has recently bought an apartment on the gold coast. Gold Coast have offered up their first round selection for an experienced player. Can we join the dots in any way?

    * He would be an ideal one / two year player for them.
    * There would be a connection between Dew, Tippett and Shaw and buddy
    * Takes $ pressure off the Swans cap...

End rumor and start of conjecture.

Is this good for the swans generation next? Yes - Room to grow.
No he has not finished with preparing the new kids for the future..
Would anyone else be traded as part of a package. Hmmm. One rumor at a time.

While Buddy is still a fantastic player, I'm not sure if anyone would part with a high draft pick for him, as any hamstring problem, would almost be game over.

The Suns have made some woeful list decisions in the past but not even they are giving up pick 2 or 3 for Buddy who is a week to week proposition this year and probably next.

But, some team like Melbourne could get lucky offloading a player like Weideman who probably won't make it anyway to GC thereby continuing the long list of GC list mistakes.

GC a massive worry for the AFL, look to be ready to implode yet again. Vic and SA clubs circling the talent on the GC list and ready to ream them in the process ala Brisbane's Go Home Five of a few years ago.

Wasn't it mandated by the AFL Buddy MUST see out his contract with Sydney?

If he goes I think it would be as a learner coach, not as a player.

And I bet if so he'll do very well.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Lots of people have apartments on the Gold Coast. They have nice beaches and lots of golf courses up there. Didn't Bud flag maybe
going an extra year with the Swans after 2022 just recently? Besides his wife has a career in Sydney. She probably makes more money
              than him.

I feel he Buddy a lot a value to the Swans and not a preference to trade. And not just on the paddock.

And yes a lot of people have appts on the gold coast..

Hmmmm, you could be right but I thought the AFL were so upset by the length of the contract and considered it ridiculous.

So upset they only signed it off by stating he must play it out even if he couldn't move physically and his salary would have to stay on our books until the end.

Oh, also a trade ban as we all know.

I suspect even Gil (privately) would concede the absurdity of that position now.

It would be a holiday home.
He put down $5 mil on a unit in Rose Bay last year as their new family home.
Thanks to the late Eddie Everywhere, I think that even if we trade him, we STILL have to count the cost of his contract into our salary cap.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

It is the terms of Restricted Free Agency. This is not a specific anti-Swans rule. The trade ban, on the other hand.......

My gut feeling after watching Bud this year........is that if we can get another $1mill type player to come to the Swans in 2022 AND another club wants Bud in 2022 and prepared to pay $1mill AND bud wants to go then that is fine

But the development of McDonald and our forward line works better with having Bud around next year even at $1mill...........Bud can still get his 3 goals a game it appears which is super handy for any AFL team and he takes a serious defender with him which allows Heeney and Reid and or McDonald to have more impact and score board hurt.

"Franklin's remuneration then rises further in the sixth, seventh and eighth years, before dropping to roughly $1 million in the ninth and final year (2022), by which stage Franklin will be 36"
