Much better effort, much better game of footy. Just lacked a little polish at moments that mattered, but tremendous effort.

Lance Franklin is a joy to watch; he'll be missed when he's gone.

That was definitely one of those "moments that matter" that I was referring to.

No one has suggested surgery. I lost vision in one eye 20 years ago due to an eye injury and developed wet macular degeneration in my 'good' eye about a year ago. This drug Avastin has good results for those, like me, who have blood vessel growth and bleeding in the retina. I go for a retina scan in Chiang Mai every month now. In fact, I'm planning to move back to Chiang Mai in 3 months because it has the only hospital in the north of Thailand with a high resolution retina scanner. The ophthalmologist is pretty good too. It's not easy to find good doctors in Thailand.

If your wife has wet macular degeneration, I would recommend trying Avastin. It doesn't work for other kinds of macular degeneration, which sounds like the case for your wife.

Being a touch typist keeps me going on this forum, but for how long I don't know.

Melbourne seemed a bit silly when they splashed out big bucks for May and Lever...now seem quite a bit smarter.

My wife passed last year but she had wet macular degeneration and the surgery was recommended to prevent loss of sight but it proved ineffective

Sounds like you are being vigilant so good luck to you

Generally gets good stats for tackles. Has a crack. Hopefully can build some strength so that tackling effort gets rewarded.

                      Annoying loss.

McCartin is a worry. He's not winning any contests and has lost confidence with his disposal. He shouldn't have match-ups like Dixon at this stage.

As everyone says - Brand's handball turned the game and his disposal and decision-making was terrible all night. I hadn't believed at any point until about one minute before that stupid play.

Off-season number 1 priority: find an elite defender. I agree with others - we may as well have a look at Gould.

                      Positives:

McInerney was outstanding. Smart footballer; will get even better as he puts some muscle on.

Great to have Gulden's intelligence back.

Hewett, Parker, Hayward and Dawson played well. Mills is a fantastic player but makes poor plays too regularly.

Sorry to hear about your wife's passing. I'm surprised you weren't told about Avastin (and a few other similar drugs), because they were first tested in the USA more than 10 years ago and the positive results for wet macular degeneration have been well known since then.

Whilst disappointing to lose when we had all the momentum, that was a pretty brave effort from our team. Everyone seems to be forgetting they left at 6:30 a.m and then had to sit around in the cricket nets for five hours. Not an ideal preparation for any game. Port are supposed to be contenders this season, while we have a list still developing. Nevertheless, disappointing.

I would like to see Gould get a game in order to solve the mystery as to why he hasn't had one yet! Obviously there is a reason. Is he too slow, does he have no defensive side to his game, does he lack effort, does he have no tank, is he not picking up team structures, not a team player, or just not good enough at this level ..... ? I have only watched a couple of reserves games and saw him do a few good things but he didn't really stand out and say 'pick me next week'.

He seems to be a mature young man from off-season interviews, eldest son and right hand man on the family farm and was captain of one of the footy teams he played with before selection. He also played some good footy in order to be selected. Expectations were so high - hence the interest.

It is interesting to note that Stephens also has not quite lived up to expectations, yet. Could being drafted into the Co-vid year somehow have affected their development? Or has the excitement of drafting Gulden, Campbell and McDonald together with the break-out of Warner, and the progress of McInerney, all getting games early this year, meant that Stephens and Gould have faded into the background somewhat! Hopefully both are going to get the opportunity to realise their potential over time and become great players for us. Right now it would be good to find out what Gould might bring to the team - even just one game!

Our composure was really poor. We played some incredibly dumb football after the rains came.

I don't think there was bias in the umpiring, but 51 free kicks is way too much for a footy game, and in reality, plenty more could have been paid.

After the Hawthorn game I have a post about making some radical changes in out defence. After this game, radical was not a strong enough word.

                                • The best for us were McInerney and Dawson. Mills and Parker were good as well.
                                • Brand and McCartin were dreadful. McCartin has lost it. It doesn't matter how bad their replacement might be, but we have to do something different.
                                • It was probably the worst I've seen Lloyd play and Rampe wasn't far behind.
                                • Gulden looked good in the first qtr, but faded out after that.
                                • Florent went totally missing, and the few times he did find the ball, nothing good happened.
                                • A poor effort from Amartey, who picked up a corkie, I think, because I noticed his thigh bandaged in the 2nd half. He also went missing after that.

It would have been nice to win, especially after hitting the lead so close to the end. But it really doesn't matter. We're playing for draft position more than a premiership right now.

It is a worry that we are getting worse as the season moves on.

Covid will take another toll on the finances of the league and the club. It's not a good time for footy.
The Elephant in the room for me is how do we as a club rate Heeney ? Is he worth 600k a year or 400 or move on ? He had 2 vital moments to stamp himself in this game but flopped. He cant kick goals under pressure and is certainly not elite and please don't tell me he is injured as the best players still perform with them. I am now not a fan as he is one of those players that can do the spectacular but not when the side needs it under pressure.
