Chalk and cheese when you compare his ball use with Lloyd.
That moment when Gulden found Heeney with a kick into the corridor from a mark moving out of defence was a rare moment where expert commentary enhanced an appreciation of the play. Jordan Lewis is good.

The return of Gulden and Blakey (in his new defensive role) has been a big reason for our good form since the bye.

I don't really understand why the games he's missed apparently disqualify him from winning the Rising Star. If he plays the remaining games, he'll have played 16 of 22.

      Most Impactful Coaching

John Longmire was highly praised by Nick Riewoldt, Garry Lyon and Gerard Healy on "Fox Footy On the Couch" for one of the most “impactful coaching performances in a long, long time” as video emerges of the Swans boss inspiring his players before the Sydney Derby.

It’s all a bit of a mystery how Rising Star votes are awarded, but there’s a belief that if you miss more than 5 games it counts against you.

I’d love Errol to win it.

If he can then Andrew Mcleod might be a more appropriate benchmark for Jmac - strong in the contest and a competitor , then a running machine off half back .

I will offer another name who reminds me most of Jmac : Nigel Lappin . A player not as great as Matera but who was a sensational player in a number of positions - half back flanker, wingman, inside mid, half forward flanker . I see this all-rounder potential in Jmac and with him it is like watching Lappin all those years ago

I said months back that in Chad and Jmac i see the potential to be the next Voss and Lappin . They are the two players who they have the potential to be like and they worked well together as an inside outside combo . I get the mickey taken out of me for believing in these two , but i really reckon with these 2 and Errol gulden , we are looking at 3 young swans who really could be THAT good ! Every superstar of the game was once a young player who supporters didn't wanna get ahead of themselves with ! I watched a young Plugger at st kilda and remember thinking gee this young fella reminds me of Quinlan and Wade , but he'll never be at their level . Then he went on to greater heights than either of those two champions !

If they work hard and want it bad enough then there is no limit to what those 3 could become and i dont know why its such a crime to believe so !
Not a crime at all, TheBloods! I much prefer to be optimistic about our young cygnets and dare to dream about what they could become!! It's not as outlandish to do so, either. One man who would look at every junior in Australia and imagine the heights they could reach would be Kinnear Beatson! Every recruiter at every club wants to land that superstar player, the next Matera, McLeod or Voss! And if they use a first or second or even early third round pick on a young lad, they are not thinking, "this kid will make an excellent role player!" They are thinking, "this kid has the potential to be that superstar!" They would be looking at every draftee thinking of their CEILINGS as players and how great they could be when at the peak of their powers!!

It doesn't always work out that way - most of those early picks fail to live up to the ambitious visions the recruiters had of them! But it does not mean they have failed as players! Take George Hewett for example - we drafted him with pick 32, a talented junior mid we might've seen as the heir to JPK!! Has his career followed that trajectory?? Not exactly, but he has still cemented himself in the team, played over 100 games, and is currently playing a vital role in the team's march to September!! So Beatson would not be sulking that George didn't evolve into the superstar he might've hoped, he would brush it off and embrace that he's secured John Longmire another warrior in his team!!

So i say keep on believing in those you have high hopes for! There is no harm in having faith, and i must say that i prefer reading your appraisals of your favourites a lot more than your criticisms of those you don't love as much! There is something special building here, let's embrace it!!

I'd have a list of players to get a game in front of him.

Don't get me wrong, he seems like a great guy - I watched the episode of Yoyaki footy about him and he seemed like a genuine good bloke - but come finals I dont think we can carry someone like him in our team. I dunno, I'm just confused as to why we are persisting with him when he has offered so little this year? I thought he looked much more aggressive and capable last year.
To me he feels a bit like Paul Bevan - the effort makes it worthy and enjoyable

GWS outs and Bulldogs outs the last few weeks have been great timing for us also. To have 6 out of their 22 was very handy vs our Mills, Harry, Reid,Warner

How good is it to watch that footage before the match? The group was revved up and literally bouncing about the opportunities given to the three who got called up at the last minute. Similarly, I loved the embrace between Pyke and Wilbur after the match. We've got to keep Don around for a few more seasons if possible.

                    That video is unreal.

What you love about it is Longmire knows he’s got a batch of bouncy, big, extroverted personalities in some of the young ones like Blakey and Wicks and JMac and Gulden and Papley and Hayward and says all right: let’s use that to create some excitement about this.

I am stoked how Sydney based supporters are embracing the South jumper and its history, as I for a long time thought (understandably) it was just us old Melbourne based supporters who had this passion. I tip my lid to you all for doing so. To me the passion for our club runs deep Nationally (not just in Melbourne & Sydney) judging by the crowd support in our relocated games of late.

I think the South jumper looks even more striking in the modern Lycra material. So much so, Andy Mahr (SEN - Carlton tragic) has bought one. A caller rang yesterday to say to it's easily the best looking footy jumper in the AFL (didn't say if he was a Swans supporter).

Such has been the reaction, I think the club may seriously look at it being our permanent away jumper, particularly here in Melbourne as some have suggested (including my non Swans friends). I think even the seasoned VFL/AFL supporters have been given a reminder how magnificent that red V jumper looks. (Same with the original maroon Fitzroy jumper, which I only recall Brisbane playing in it once a while back).

I absolutely count myself as one of these. I have lived in Sydney more or less or all my life, have no significant connection to Melbourne, and didn't start following footy until the 90s. Despite this, I really value, promote and defend our South Melbourne heritage. I want to educate others about it (Swans fans and others alike). I want to honour the contributions of past players and supporters, to "remember" the past glories and lean years and great characters and events (even though I never witnessed them myself).

The history enriches my fan experience - it connects me to a richer and more complex tapestry and helps me to engage, and banter with, supporters of other clubs. (I'm always happy to explain to Carlton fans that one of the reasons they rate as my equal least favourite club is the way they way were so eager to see us go down the gurgler and dance on our grave before we relocated.) I also care a lot that old South supporters feel included and part of our club and I don't want you to feel you got left behind and replaced. We were SMFC and SMFC remains a huge and important part of our heritage. It's almost 'one team, two cities' - except I don't want to disenfranchise all the terrific supporters we have around Australia and around the world.

I also love the South jumper and am all in favour of connecting with our 'South' fanbase by wearing it for our away matches, especially in Victoria.

I couldn't help laughing and shaking my head when I read this sentence by Michael Whiting on afl.com.au today:

"Wins over West Coast, Western Bulldogs and Greater Western Sydney in the past three weeks has catapulted the Swans to sixth place and just one win outside the coveted double chance."

Where exactly were we before before those three victories "catapulted" us to 6th place? Well, 6th place as it happens.
