Gulden has been very good mind you.

I think Mcinerney will be the pick of our current youngsters personally.
Can we do polls on this site? It would certainly be an interesting one to get everyones views on who our best cygnet will be in five years time! And even more interesting to look back on when that time comes!!

He hasn't been playing on ball, but I would guess that he's getting most of his possessions in the midfield.

After starting the season as a forward pocket, he now seems to be playing more of his junior position. Which was, "Errol, you just go wherever you want to".

Every mention of Alex Johnson makes me sigh with what could have been and yes, it was a brilliant first year.

But umm, Callum Mills says hello.

Interesting discussion. I still think if we were re-drafting only our players 20 years or younger, McDonald would get picked first. KPFs are very hard to come by.

I agree. He is going to be a very good player for a long time

I wasn't so much referring to your comments about Blakey.....we were all frustrated with Nick. Just some others where I thought you were a bit extreme in your wording that's all. I have actually been impressed with your acknowledgements of error....and indeed a lot of your opinions on certain players. Keep giving them.

It’s clear that growing up in Sydney and attending Waverley College that Blakey has had some exposure to Rugby. He knows probably far more instinctively than a junior AFL player from Victoria, SA or WA how to run into a gap between defenders or how to bauk and beat a player one on one with ball in hand.

This then allows him to gain and extra 10, 20 or 30 meters before he needs to kick. Then tactic can absolutely destroy a well organised AFL defence, they are not defending deep enough for Blakey’s runs.

It’s probably why Blakey looks more comfortable running towards goal then having his back to goal in the forward line.
The rugby skills comparison is very good and certainly makes a lot of sense when you see the way he baulks defenders before exploding through the resulting gap.
I also think that the early exposure to the rugby codes shows up in some of Isaac’s evasive sidesteps and his tackling.

Errol has been starting more than a few bounces in the centre square

And Amartey’s junior soccer experience showed up in that amazing soccer goal against the Bulldogs!

All good first seasons (Mills too), but reckon Gulden's is better.

Bloody annoying that Champion Data isn't available to the general public to peruse at leisure.
