I don’t think I’ve seen J-Mac in at the bounces before. What a player J-Mac is. Can play small defender, half back, wing and now rover. High level of disposable efficiency and great running. I’ll await TheBloods view on J-Mac now also being in at the centre bounces.
I loved that play where Lloyd kicked out to Dawson, Dawson went through the middle to J-Mac, who moved it quickly to Florent and then Florent to Blakey for a goal. It was everything I enjoy about watching football.
James Bell. He must be running the Steeplechase chase up forward because he’s not getting a lot of the ball. I think James needs a spell now. The Swans should get a more talented footballer into the team and work around his role. Whether it’s Chad, Stephens, Campbell or Rowbottom, you can see any one of those guys making a better contribution.
I think the best option is Chad. Stuff the VFL warm up round. If Chad is fit he must be a better option than Bell.Comment

He is pidgeon toed and swings his leg across his body at impact. Has never improved his technique.Comment

Good win. I thought at half time we looked very tired due to moving around all the time. J did not think we could win on that basis. What a, team these guys are.

Essendon clearly targeted today's game, were definitely up for the contest. Like many of our previous matches, they blitzed us initially at the contest and jumped out to a lead. But as has been the case of late, we hung tough then got back in front in the 3Q by upping our pressure in the premiership quarter. Credit to the bombers, they didn't go away but in the end, we prevailed. My feeling is the bombers were dependent on a few (Merrett, Parish and Stringer) whereas we had a more even spread of contributors across the park. Parker, Heeney, Dawson and Papley all lifted for us when required but we didn't have a bad player today. We're locks for a spot in the 8, here's hoping GWS can knock off Port to advance our cause.Comment

Amartey's ruck work is certainly better. Reid has better hands. Mobility is most probably similar. Tough call, suspect Reid will improve with more games but wouldn't be averse to Joel taking his spot either.Comment

We are starting to develop the options and combos needed though, and this will improve over time - but its going to be a challenge in the finals if we don't find some way to quell momentum."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Three plays of the day.
Gulden's footy IQ to make space for himself to snap that goal.
Dawson's kick into the middle to set up Blakey's goal.
And Heeney's effort was phenomenal. Most blokes would have gone high or into the back on the second part of the play, and few would have stuck the third tackle as tightly as he did. And then, the kick to Parker. What a play. Enjoy the full glory below.
Heeney's non-stop work wins all the praise'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

Wow. What a game! Old school shoot out! Stoked to win that one, our will to find a way to win this year has been amazing. Not sure why there is any need for negativity after a win like that.
Or to question Sam Reid’s place in the side. He showed why he is there, up front and down back late. He’s a very important swing man ( and provides Ruck relief ) and was having a very good year before he went down with injury . Amartey showed some great signs in one or two games but he’s unlikely to do that consistently for a while yet. And he doesn’t have the ability/ experience to do what Reid does down back, not yet anyway.

Not sure what Wicks was doing there at the end though - was that some sort of pressure hold? It was a bit bizarre - and technically a high tackle. Glad the umpire ignored it. Heeney was brilliant.Comment

I think the Swans are done with the old crash and bash down the line. Switching, precise passing, carry and corridor movement is much better for the younger Swans bodies. That style really alows the younger players such as J-Mac, Blakey, Florent and Gulden to shine.Comment

Another fabulous game of footy - how spoilt have we been this year?
As someone in an earlier thread (perhaps Markwebbos?) has noted, our ability to win playing different game styles and changing up during the game is very impressive and a true indicator of a finals team.Comment

All good, but personally, I think you missed the play of the day. Which was when Hewett handballed to McInerney on the defensive side of the square, and seeing an opportunity, Blakey took off from inside the 50. He got up to top pace to receive the handball from McInerney and then burnt off McDonald-Tipungwuti. Still at top pace, he hit a long kick to Papley; who crumbed his own spilt mark and slotted a running shot from deep in the pocket. Rebound footy at its finest.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment
