Paps didn’t celebrate his heroics with his usual exuberance, he was mumbling away something like ‘let’s keep a lid on this, focus, there’s still a fair bit to do here in 2021.”

Another impressive performance and was a great game to watch . Full credit to Essendon they came to play .
My only real concern going forward is the lack of game time for our reserves . If we cop a few injuries and have to bring in underdone players . Chad is obviously in our best side but we can’t bring him in under done . Bell looks to be struggling and Wicks to a lesser extent he most likely needs a week off to freshen up.
Rowbottom and Stephens are next in line but play different rolls . Which leaves us Ronke who’s played one senior game in god knows how long .
Campbell is another we could try as that pressure forward but he would be underdone as well .
Our forward half pressure was non existent early on but luckily we turned that around

Chad and Campbell the two obvious upgrades if over their injury troubles, Bell has supporters but just doesn't get enough of the ball and is the obvious out, after that I'm scratching my head
This should be some ride!Last edited by 707; 2 August 2021, 08:41 AM.Comment

Was thinking exactly that as I watched this game. For a team of ball butchers in recent seasons, the elevated foot skills and vision the last season and a half has been remarkable.

I couldn't watch the game in the end. Left work during the first quarter, put the car radio on and Essendon scored two goals on the way home. Got changed and turned on the TV and they got another! Started distracting myself with some Olympics for awhile, checked the footy again and lo and behold, another Bombers goal....back to the Olympics. Another check a bit later.....same result! One more check and Stringer's playing on and banging another through. I had not witnessed one Swans goal. Bugger this I declared, I'm not watching anymore, I'm a jinx! Tuned in again with 17 seconds left and us up by the final margin. ..."Fortunately, this is the internet, so knowing nothing is no obstacle to having an opinion!." Beerman 18-07-2017Comment

The other possible, and somewhat forgotten, supplier of "dynamic" is Isaac Heeney.Comment

I agree about your comments on only letting 2 of the 4 slowest in to centre bounces - and getting in at least 1 more dynamic paler in. We'll not know whether JMac is a long term solution though, until he get's some attention paid to him by his opponent.

Agree 100%. In the second half his marking and deadly accurate kicking really added great momentum to the team.Comment

James bell had a nice month, but I agree, it's time to swap someone else in now.Comment

Players like Hickey and Mumford go a long way to showing the value of a powerful ruck. Both of them have made their sides 2-3 wins better sides this year. There is no player more important than Hickey in our line up right now. Not Buddy, not Parker, not Papley, not even McCartin. Interestingly, Hickey and Mumford show their value differently. Hickey throws his body around and does his best to apply pressure but he is not the same physical presence as Mummy. However, he offers a lot more offensively with the ball in hand - he uses the ball well and even contributes goals. He also runs hard and gets into good positions offensively and defensively to help the team out.All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)Comment

I can't imagine what I would have said to you if you had told me this time last year that Tom Hickey would be one of my favourite players to watch.Comment

Me too! I was pretty lukewarm on his recruitment and he has almost straight away become one of my favourites. I don't know how long he can keep it up, but I am enjoying it while it lasts. All opinions are not equal. mmm.... interesting. I washed the car just before the game. Perhaps there is something in this. I will contact Horse later today and see what he thinks.Comment
