I thought it was a pretty even team performance. Great game by Ollie hopefully he continues to take his game to another level. I don't believe he had a turnover.
Jmac was a bit fumbley but lifted in the last quarter. Kennedy usually takes a few games to get into his stride but he made some terrible errors.

Angus Sheldrick showed that he can handle it at the top level.

If Parker plays more forward then look out.

Errol Gulden is a gun and in the last quarter he willed himself onto the game. He ran from end to end and he wasn't even puffing. His mate Braeden Campbell oozes class and when he gets more midfield time he will have a big influence. He has the courage to play a midfield and doesn't need to be nursed into the game on the HBF.

We look a bit of a nightmare for teams trying to match up on us.

Having just listened to Longmire's press conference, the big message that I took out if it, is that McInerney's injury is nothing serious. Apparently it was just a knock to the knee and the thinking is that he should be right for next week.

I also thought that Longmire looked healthy, relaxed and in a good place. Which is nice. Although, the only other press conference that I watched this round, was the Beveridge fiasco. So maybe the contrast, is making John seem that little bit more Zen?

After seeing Beveridge's petulant display the other night, I felt quite Zen just knowing what a coach we have in Horse. The contrast is stark.

I think Parker’s game has suffered at times when he’s tried to do too much. I think the lift in quality and experience around him this year could be huge.

Yep. Plus he’s a natural forward, so with our midfield depth can play down there for good patches.

From the ground, Parker, Heeney, and Florent were huge. The Giants are a bloody good side and we needed these guys to step up. I’ve said it before but gee I wish Tom Green was with us. He will be a top 3 player in the comp.

The big takeaway from me was the improved defensive set up and individual performance in the second half. It might take a little while to gel completely but that second half was promising z

Yep. What I did like about Sheldrick is he didn’t lose a contest. Young players get worked off the contest usually. He didn’t.

I was watching him in the pre-game warm-up and he seemed a bit nervy, but grew into the game really well.

I want Campell and Stephen’s in the team as they are good ball users and their confidence is rising.

I think if Lloyd, Chad and Papley are ready for next week then the outs are Sheldrick, Kennedy and Wicks.

I remember watching an Allies v Vic Metro game, where I thought he was clearly the best midfielder on the ground, and that Vic Metro team included everybody's one and two picks, Rowell and Anderson. Now he's a 192cm, 92kg midfield bull, who can go forward and take contested marks.

Only saw the game from the broadcast, and havent yet seen a replay, but that was a very satisfying win. Challenged hard by a quality opposition, we just went harder for longer. The Giants have a very deep midfield, but made an obvious effort to slow the game down by early in the 3rd quarter. Our guys must be in excellent condition, we were running past them by the end.
Also we have clear room for improvement - in personnel (Papley, Warner, Lloyd), and also in a disrupted backline learning to work together. Though even within the game, they showed signs of better cohesion in the second half.
Very good individual games from Parker, Florent, Heeney & Blakey. But the team was very even and it will be difficult to drop any for next week. Kennedy wasn't great, but it is very typical for him to start the season slowly, and he has to learn his new roll. I also wonder about Wicks, but then the coaches will judge why Ash & Winfield were below their normal output, there is no way to tell from the TV broadcast.
Only round 1 - but this season could be as enjoyable as last year. Maybe better. Here's hoping.
