I suspect Adam has better things to do with his life right now.

Eddie McGuire ruled himself out of the job a few minutes ago on Footy Classified. The Melbourne footy Mafia are pushing Brendan Gale but there is a lot of names being thrown around including people from outside of football administration. Its not seen as obvious as to who will succeed him, whereas Gil was generally viewed as the obvious successor to Demetriou.

Harley was on the possibilities list on Footy Classified but Caroline Wilson conceded he is probably not quite there yet in terms of experience.

I suspect they'll do an "extensive international search" and then end up appointing a Victorian. [emoji16]

Hopefully whatever Gill does in the future doesn't end up costing the taxpayer as much his predecessor's illustrious
post footy ''career in business'' has. No reason why the AFL shouldn't think outside the box and appoint Ted Lasso.
His previous transition between sports was fairly successful.

As much as I admire Tom this is the understatement of the decade. He's still completely on training wheels running the Swannies and was a future/gut pick for that role to be honest (a well supported stable club helps for the more untried candidate, the AFL gig is in another galaxy). Let him work here for a decade or so.

I meant to add, I reckon Carlton is in trouble. Brian Cook the perfect candidate, would have club support and is a wise, measured head not as subject to old boys playing network perhaps. He could mix it with commissioners, media etc easily. I know he's from Victoria but I can't think of anyone from other states as well credentialed who may have the fuel in the tank.

I would at least be putting a call into Roger Goodell for the AFL CEO role.

He’s been the NFL Commissioner since 2006.

The AFL could only pay him around 5% of what the NFL pays but he may be looking for something new and may like to try a new country.

Could he take our sport to the next level and start it on the path to the NFL influence.

After dealing with Billionaire owners, US politicians, the most powerful players union in sports history and multinational companies, who in the AFL would intimidate him.

Everyone would have a fresh start and legacy would count for crap.

His father Senator Charles Goodell was once a US Senator for New York so he’s blood is more blue than Gills.

Worth a phone call and would be the most exciting hire in sports history.

Seems a fanciful nomination, BS. A guy like that moving to Australia for a tiny salary by US standards? I give you credit for thinking outside the box but it ain't happening. Someone with Aussie connections is more realistic.

Someone who is at the forefront of media and digitalisation but with Aussie connections, may be a great choice as the future is in that area - just look at the English Premier League. Its extraordinary media rights deals globally have turned it into the premier soccer competition globally in recent years. Its not much behind the big US sports now in this regard which is why all of these US billionaires have bought English clubs like Liverpool and ManU.
