I also had to watch the game on catch up after a spell in the surf.
It was remarkable that we started the way we did and ended in a completely juxtaposed manner.
Mills was incredible in the guts. We'll struggle if he goes down injured this year. I thought Parker was also strong as was Kennedy when he came on.
Ladhams, Heaney and Warner got better as the game progressed.
I love Campbell's tenacity and when the ball is to be won at ground level and his willingness to drive off halfback. He compliments Blakey, who also had some wonderfully controlled and tempered kicks.
Gulden and McInerney had strong games and it was fitting that the latter scored late in the match as he ran himself into space to take a mark and kick for goal.
How good is Ronke? It's great to see him back in the side after such a horror run with injuries.
Papley needs to come in for Bell when he's available. I don't think Bell did enough today to retain his spot.
A great way to start the week. It's weird having the footy on Monday though. Cheer cheer!

One of the things I’ve been encouraged by this year with Campbell is how he uses his body, and occasionally quick feet, to win contests. He doesn’t lose too many. The possession count will vary week to week depending on how tightly he has to mind his opponent down back and how much licence he has to run. But the game starts at the contest, and he’s good at it.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

Just watched the game on delay.
I'm sure everything that has been said about the first quarter, especially the first 10-15 minutes - just appalling.
2nd and 3rd we stemmed the bleeding, lifting at the contest aided by inaccurate kicking by the Hawks.
4th quarter we just over ran them. Complete belting and the final scoreline didn't reflect how precariously placed we were for most the match.
Mills and Parker just outstanding in wrestling the game back to us. Ladhams, after getting whipped in the 1st quarter, came back strongly and eventually dominated the ruck. Other good players for us were Blakey, Campbell, Buddy and Ronke. Impressed by how TMcCartain and Rampe fought back after a dismal 1st quarter.
Saddened by Paddy's concussion. Just hoping he's ok and comes back in 12 days time. Same with Logan who was going ok today until his knock.
How good was it to see Joey come on in the 4th quarter? I instantly felt calmer seeing him and Parker at the first centre bounce and he was prominent on ball during our comeback. I really think he is best 22 when playing on ball and we need to find room for him in the side. His poise under pressure and years of experience are priceless, especially when we're under the pump.
Costly win in the end with the two concussions but great to get it after such an awful start. We can't afford a start like today against the better sides, especially Lions and Dees.
We had 25 more inside 50 for the game. We dominated play from the 15 minute mark of the first. But we did not convert. We spent over 53% of the last 3 quarters in possession. Our game in possession was 46%, theirs 37. We had over 50 more disposals. The fact is, if we had converted the majority of our opportunities, instead of bombing long to their defenders again and again for 3 quarters, we would have won by far more. That was King's point. He realised we were smashing thrm everywhere but the scoreboard. In the last, we finally converted. Why? Because, we hit up targets.

I think we kept them in it with our inaccurate kicking. At one stage it was 13-5 inside 50. We were controlling play just not putting it on the scoreboard. At one stage in the third, David King commented that if we got our @@@@ together as far as scoarboard pressure was concerned the floodgates would open. They did. But we had to wait until the last.

Horse just said in post game presser McCartin feels fine and the docs just took a conservative approach with him.
For a laugh, watch Horses face and reaction to some moron journo asking if the prospect of it being Buddy’s last game in Tassie was something they were aware of and discussed.Comment

I mentioned in another thread, that our then 4-1 record was against middling opposition. We beat Geelong by 30, but our only other match against a potential top 8 team was the umpire assisted loss to the Bulldogs. Hawks are currently 8th as I post, but will drop to 9th if Collingwood win.
We are now 4th, but we haven't played Melbourne, Brisbane (next week), Fremantle, St Kilda or Carlton yet this year.
After six rounds, we are where we should be roughly given who we have played, but we still need to prove ourselves against fellow contenders this year.
We have improved in back half and defending better than last year.Blakey has been a revelation and so has Paddy.
We are ok in midfield but connection is poorer than last year.
We are poor in forward half. Return of Papley will really help. But our pressure has improved in the last 2 weeks.
We need connection as you say. And we need another midfielder to go to the Mills level if not nearly there. I thought it would be Florent this year but he is getting worse than better. Next 4 weeks will tell us starting next week.Comment

The other thing is that other teams at the top of the table are also in the same situation - that is, they haven't played much either. Melbourne have looked unbeatable but all six of heir opponents currently reside outside the 8. Fremantle are 1-1 for trams currently in the 8 and 4-0 outside of the 8. We have only played one team (Geelong) that currently reside in the 8.
When was the last time when the top 5 teams on the ladder after 6 rounds where they had a combined total of 4 losses and >130%? The anomaly is likely to continue with only our game and the Geelong v Fremantle game involving current top 8 teams against each other.Comment

Hun in Melbourne questioning Franklin bumping umpire. In the words of Sergeant Schultz, ‘I know nothing.’ Saw nothing on TV and it wasn’t mentioned during broadcast. Anyone know more? Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

What gems we have in Gulden, Warner and Campbell.
Gulden is a rolls royce - nobody I'd rather have ball in hand looking to deliver inside 50 (or anywhere on the ground, really).
There's an article on the AFL site, which notes, with incredulity, that Warner has just played 20 games. *Twenty games*. He plays with a deserved confidence - I suspect he's been breaking tackles and bombing goals from 50 for many years and he's quickly found he can do it at AFL level too. The Parker heir apparent; what a joy.
I'm Uninformed was spot on with the previous post on Campbell - I found myself reflecting during the game that I already feel confident when he's defending one-on-one. He's tenacious in the contest and going to win the possession if it's contested at ground level in that situation.
I wonder how many of Buddy's 1007 he's kicked with his right - under 50? I enjoyed that one to get his day back on track.
It's true, as someone mentioned, that Ladhams overcame a more junior opponent. Still, I thought he was excellent around the ground again. I think he's absorbing the lessons already. Encouraging.
Really pleased for Joey. Props to Ludwig for the spot on call re medical sub.
