Buddy possibly out for us with suspension.

I would think Blakey will be an automatic in probably instead of Fox

Agreed if he is recovered. Hickey over McClean if he is also recovered.

I wasn’t sure how far away they were.

Buddy's been offered a one match ban. Intentional, low impact, high contact.

'If' he's out (and I'd think about challenging the intentional bit), I think Amarty is in best form to bring in. You could play him as second ruck and let Reid stay home. Amarty might actually be a better fit against Jackson, who Reid would struggle to match.

Blakey is the other definite in, for Roberts.

I thought Horse said after the game it was just a cold that flared up on the day so you would hope he is back we will need him if the Demons go down today they will be filthy.

If Franklin made contact with Cotchin's head, then he's gone. I don't think we have a case.

            If nothing else develops:

            In: Amartey, Blakey, Ronke
            Out: Franklin, Roberts, Wicks

MRO have assessed intentional, high contact, low impact = 1 game out, unless we appeal.

                Yep.

I notice May was concussed tonight. That'll help balance the loss of Franklin.

I would assume we’ll appeal - we may as well.

You could argue for careless on the basis he was trying to repeat his first action which was the open hand to Cotchin’s chest.

So that was his ‘intention’, rather than making the high contact. I reckon it helps that he can point to the first action as his ‘real intention’ - rather than like most instances where you could try and say ‘I hit him but I wasn’t really trying to’.

The MRO sets a low bar for ‘intentional’ but I’d say it’s more than worth rolling the dice at the tribunal and hope they buy it.

Challenge on what grounds? The only basis would be that Franklin didn't hit Cotchin. Otherwise, it seems a waste of time.

Might as well appeal and quote the "nothing to see here" comment by the MRO when Lynch deliberately elbowed Impy.

Franklin’s hit was off the ball; whatever we might think about Lynch his hit was in play. No argument could be mounted that Buddy’s hit was other than intentional. Doesn’t matter where he intended to hit Cotchin, his intent to hit is obvious . That’s all that is taken into account.

Take the one-match ban, treat it as a chance to rest a no-longer-young Buddy, and select the best team without him.

Ps: Buddy has always had a propensity to lose his cool when provoked, probably did it more often in his Hawthorn days when he was younger. Star players get a lot of ‘attention’ to which is understandably difficult not to react. Problem for Buddy is that he is so tall his retaliation hits or bumps often strike in the no-go area above the neck. I reckon we take this occasional ‘bad’ with the far more often ‘good’, and the many times ‘wonderfully brilliant’.

Whatever happens with Buddy please let the umpiring be a non event on the game and the result.

Probably bad timing for us the demons have had a calibrating loss but let’s see how the game unfolds.
