Round 17: Swans v Bulldogs

Pressure football wins games. That's the lesson from tonight and the blueprint for Swans success. Our offence is generated from our pressure.
Great shutdown role from Clarke again. Rowbottom is as good a defensive minded stoppage player as I've seen. He had some massive stops in the game and generated some good offence as well.
Amartey was good, especially early.
Stoppage player wanted. Ruckmen need not apply. Reid was great in the ruck , and Amartey can handle himself okay in there.
Chad might well be Dusty's successor.Last edited by Ludwig; 8 July 2022, 11:24 PM.Comment

Agree. The Swans tonight bear no resemblance to the team that played last week.BOG was Sammy Reid, did not see that coming. Loving the way Chad Warner plays the game. My apologies to Tom Papley for berating him last week.Great Game. Joel Amartey is too talented not to play AFL. Sorry Logan maybe next year will be your year.Comment

As one of the pretty poor crowd of 26k, I thought Reid was superb. Both defensively and going the other way & negated what I thought might be a ruck mismatch after ladhams subbed out. Been having a great return to form - please keep it going Sam!Comment

What a great way by the boys to honour my return to the SCG after three years. I’m very humbled and thankful. ????
But an excellent all round performance. I’m sure some close observers who go every week will go derrrrrrr, but:
- despite his goal kicking at the moment, when Papley is up and about what he gives to our team is something special. You need players with a serious point of difference, and he has it, with elite skills and footy IQ to match
- speaking of footy IQ, watching Pat McCartin from behind the goals is something. You can see him start to position himself two possessions out. He forces his opponent to try to lead or make space in redundant spots. His brother isn’t quite in the same class and has a different role, but has the same instincts and they are quite the combo.
- I expected Chad’s power and explosiveness to be something special, and seeing it live for the first time, it is. He’s going to be a rare footballer, as we all know
- neither JMac or Stephens had the greatest games tonight but boy they cover the ground and one great thing about the two of them, when they have to go, they go. If they’re our wingers for the next decade, we’re in good hands
- whether it is a brick wall or a player between Rowbottom and a contested ball, look out. He’s truly a hard ass in the best traditions of the Swans
- I’ve long wanted Heeney to be a winger. Screw that, play him forward, let him drift onto the ball now and then, and scare the crap out of defenders. Just elite at the craft.
Anyway, lots to love about tonight. Blakey, Reid, Parker awesome.
And thanks again lads, I appreciate the tribute.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

Fantastic win . Set up by our best players . Loved Chad spreading from the contest , Blakey from half back . Not much from Jmac and Gulden , love them but need to lift . Gulden cut that playing for frees out of your game . Weightman .
Nearly everyone played their role . Our worst player was awful as usual , Hayward not much better , every touch was a nothing turnover . Sooner we replace them with Gus and Campbell the better we will be
How about Reid ? Some wanted him retired !Comment

What I said in last weeks autopsy thread - things are never as good as they seem and never as bad as they seem.
But I am bloody rapt at thrashing the Dogs and umpires!
So folks, hands up who was sacking Longmire, hands up who was trading Papley, hands up who said our season was over
Reid was huge tonight, gave away enormous height and reach to English but Sam not only competed but beat English comprehensively. Cannot praise him enough. Automatic 2023 contract.
Papley had an AFL season record 17 score involvements. Tom played one of his best games ever, pity about the points but he was all over the ground.
Ladhams was looking great before he went off injured, needs surgery on his thumb. Maybe the brain fade game is a turning point in his career.
The Iron McCartin excellent again. Paddy McCartin has the most intercept marks in the AFL this season with 55, next best 47. How's that for a player we got for free!
Coaching was excellent, pulling a late change to bring in Clarke who was excellent against the highly productive Bailey Dale. Clarke gets a contract for 2023, he's getting better as a footballer and is a great stopper.
No weak links tonight, looking forward to the stress free replay of the game, so sweet that victory. Freo in Perth next week, a repeat of tonight could see us win.Comment

It was a nice feeling listening to what appeared to be a comprehensive victory with ten goal kickers by the Swans.
I wonder where and when last week’s doomsayers will appear on the thread this week?
Do we still sack Horse and half of the playing list after that effort?
With minimal changes from last week was the result tonight because of those minor team selection changes or simply a different mindset and game plan created and instilled into the playing group by the coaching staff ?Comment

If he said that, then clearly it is possible. Another case in point -> Malcolm Blight.Comment
