Swans chat REAL NEWS - Dustin Martin

Fox Footy tonight, John Ralph has spoken to Andrew Pridham who said -

We are sick and tired of being linked to Dustin Martin. We have never spoken to Dustin, his manager or Richmond and don't intend to.

Our priorities are clear, we have a young developing list, we want to re-sign McCartin, Jake Lloyd and a deal for Lance Franklin is in the works, all those players want to stay. We have cap space.

Ralph indicated that Swans will not be blowing up their plans and cap.

So that's it, we can stop discussion on will he, won't he. We can stop discussion on whether we have cap problems. On the latter, can posters please note this and stop suggesting we have to lose players due to cap problems.

John Ralph did suggest there's interest from other clubs in Stephens and Amartey who aren't getting a regular game.

How do these crazy rumours start? It was obviously a stupid move to go after Dusty.

Probably because Dusty spent the off season in Sydney as well as during his mental health break. So journalists put 2 and 2 together and got 5.

I can’t imagine why we’d be interested in Dusty but I can see why the Tigers would want rid of his $$$.

Geelong might be worth a call?

Plenty have said we Had a cap problem, and that we lost some players because of it. And certainly a good number have suggested we don't want to create another cap problem by recruiting Martin. But I don't remember seeing that anyone was suggesting we Currently have a cap problem.

I’m relieved that the club has shut this down.

Time to focus on Zurhaar et al

Zurhaar is a player I’ve thought highly of, but I don’t think he’s someone we need to chase. We already have a great young, developing list. He can do the mercurial thing, but is something of a “one trick pony”.

IMO GWS will be his Club.

There is sure to be some GWS players wanting to go back to Victoria.

They would love, and need, an well known identity to help them gain some much needed exposure and popularity.

Dusty fits the bill...And he goes ok !

Don't think they can afford him without offloading a lot of players. Allegedly have to let Taranto go just to meet their cap. Then add in more than $1m a year for an ageing superstar ... Unless (a) he tears up his contract (a la Jesse Hogan) (b) the Tigers play a huge chunk of it (c) some AFL shenanigans find a way to pay most of his salary outside the cap, as a marquee player at an expansion club?

None of it adds up to me, but then Caroline Wilson is spruiking it!

And what is Clarko going to want to do?

Not sure why going after one of the finest players of the last decade would be such a crushing mistake. Subject to cost in terms of trade and contract, you'd be crazy not to be talking to him,
