hmmmmmm time to roll up the sleeves and take on the mighty Demons at the MCG

that was lacking tonight and a serious opportunity missed for 2nd place and all the advantages that go with it

but we get to ride again !!!!

        Great effort to finish third.

This is the glass half full approach I lean towards. Of course we’ll have to be better in the finals, but we locked in top four.

Two years ago we finished 16th. What a rise. Full credit to coaches, player development, recruitment and the players. Just magnificent.

Our thought our ball movement was OK, particularly in the first half. When the Saints turned the ball over (with or without pressure from Swans), we went bang-bang into our forward 50.

It was the contested ball that was an issue. Clearly we were belted out of the centre, but even around the ground the Saints seemed to come away from stoppages with the ball far too often. Thank goodness for Rowbottom - he was the one Swan determined not to let the Saints scoot away easily. I wonder how much effect the unique conditions of Marvel had to do with that. Does the ball bounce a bit differently than on outside grass?

There may have been a few players playing sore after last week. Our manic tackling was missing and our run was well down. We were back to our mid season slow play and poor selection and disposal by foot.

We definitely need the week's rest.

Why didn't one of the senior players tell Wicks to settle down and kick for goal.
            Good last quarter by Stephens.
Jmac is having a bad patch.
Warner is such a talent. Amazing goal on the run.
Strong clearance game by Hanners. It's amazing how players at his level can be out of the game so much, but still retain talent and touch. I wonder whether he bobs up at North.

The ball always seems to bounce differently at Marvel. The surface looks good but there are patches of grass regularly replaced and sides that play there seem to read it better. Also the ball seems to run quicker across the surface.

At the start of the year, we would have taken 3rd spot in a heartbeat, so let’s congratulate the boys sand coaches for a fantastic season. Yes, we dropped a few games but the back end has been really great- this game was not up to our new standards but the Saints were good the last half. Happy to have won but did let a few expletives fly in the last quarter! Rowy was amazing and will be acknowledged for a super effort in the last 10 minutes. So happy for him!

Thank you Hanners- just a great guy and a top footballer ????

Maybe every one of the swans fans who doubted him !

I liked Horse's response in the press conference after a journo asked him about Paps and maybe having our first final on a Thursday night and Paps missing out. He said he wouldn't think that a team that played on a Sunday and finished top four would be fixtured on the Thursday night. When pressed if he is stating his case for a later fixture, he said "No, I'm just stating the obvious."

Would the AFL be so transparently cruel to us? One would hope not.

Of course we all lived in hope but there was good reason to have some doubts about Dyl....he has been slow to develop at the highest level despite his obvious talent. Just great to see his perseverance now paying off and that talent being realised.

Only the umpires were fantastic. Unfortunately, they play for Saint Kilda.

Gee they were just ordinary today in general. The 15m calls for both sides (us in particular but St Kilda got a few in the 2nd half too) were bizarre at times.
