Occupational hazards:
I don't eat animals since discovering this ability. I used to. But one day the lamb I was eating came through to me and ever since then I haven't been able to eat meat.Comment

While he is a good player, us being linked as interested in Tom Doedee is a little concerning to me. We have been burned by players in the past who have had ACL issues and with Tom still to comeback from his latest ACL injury (that's both knees now), it smacks of desperation that we aren't confident we'll land McKay... I love our varied thoughts and considerations regarding our squad
If we had put a contract in front of Stephen’s and he saids no and we loose a 40 game 23yr old mid in 2024……..does that mean it is very likely we need to replace Dylan with an experienced mid?
I’m guessing from what I have seen of Dylan he really is only an outside wing.
Obviously not a super high contract in $
Maybe $350k max $400k pa?
…..
Regarding Clarke there must be a player that we can attract to Sydney on a similar $ but has more time with the ball and more flexibility in roles?
Clarke can tag.
Predominately tagging a dangerous HFF or FP.
That is a strong skill set but very limited.
It seems to me that is now an opportunity cost vs a player on similar $ (maybe $300k pa?) that could truly help win contested footy ie we went hunting for a good value contested player in Kennedy. He turned out one in a million. But I’m sure across the whole of the AFL there must be a handful of candidates that help our deficiencies around winning the contest?"be tough, only when it gets tough"

That’s a great suggestion. My only concern would be this age, 30 next year.Comment

Sorry Liz- don’t know anything about Jordon, but you can’t have much of a downgrade on Clarke!. I don’t like to knock any Swan but I wouldn’t have him anywhere near our team if we’re serious. Sorry Ryan, please don’t take offence but football is a tough business not just a sport so please move on for your own benefit. Same goes for Sam Wicks- these two can’t help us win a flag. That brings me to Wilbur: he obviously was Horse’s pet when he started with us but hey, time has now flown by so Wilbur, get serious and play consistent good footy and kick accurately or else. The ability is there as he has shown a few times this year but then goes missing too often. Is it a matter of fitness? If so, train your backside off- no excuses!Comment

Auntie,
I agree with you. Clarke is not the long term future and in my opinion the classic list clogger. There are players out there who would be worth considering.
The club are going to have to clear some space on the list to make room for new arrivals, and by my estimation they will need to free up 8 spots. Bear in mind 2 spots have already been filled by Buller and Arnold offset by the departure of Franklin Hicky and Paddy McCartin and almost certainly Stephens. We will have to find 4 more, so the most likely are Clarke, Gould, Owen, and either Hall-Khan or Rankin.
This would enable the club to bring in 3 free agents/trades and 3 draft picks including GearyComment

No-simply no. Let’s look critically at our midfielders: what’s obvious to me is that the major ingredient missing is speed. We have only two with genuine speed: Errol and Paps. Now you can be very effective even without elite speed like Mills and to a lesser degree Rowy, and of course years back we had Diesel who was far from quick as far as leg speed was concerned but lightning fast in his thinking and decision making. Of course, he was a unique talent. My point is that we need players that ideally have leg speed and are quick thinkers. A strong bodied midfielder is great but we have Millsey and Parks already. We need to unearth someone like Oliver- great at getting the ball and then great at doing something constructive with it. I don’t see the point of trading in anyone near the end of their career- if we can’t get an elite midfielder from another club then we just have to persevere with the draft and hope we get lucky. With Sheldrick, Roberts and Konstanty we have hopes for the future but what we now need is more pace.Comment

Interestingly Caroline Wilson has been slamming Grundy for choosing Sydney. She thinks he is picking the town over our club. What a bitter and twisted person she is.
Also Collingwood are making noises about not paying a part of his salary if he comes to Sydney. Surely they cannot do that?Comment
