First a bit about myself, I started playing footy in country SA during the mid seventies while I attended high school in Murray Bridge, I am Sydney born and bred, I played then for Balmain in the SFL in the early eighties and played for Baulkham Hills in their first years out at the Kellyville Country Club and boy we copt some floggings. I later played until I was Forty years old on the Mid North Coast, until a leg injury put me out. So I know a little bit about footy. As a footballer I was a hack , but loved playing the game.

My issue with Horse and a lot of people in my area have the same opinion is that Horse has had his chance and needs to move on. A loss of 18 points is an honourable loss, but 81 points is an embarrassment, especially for an experienced coach.
My major concern is that the club has signed up John for a two year extension at the beginning of the 2023 season, surely it would have been more prudent to wait until the end of the season, to see where we are at.
My other concern is that after the walloping we got, our younger players are going to be scarred and our older players must be having nightmares from previous GF losses. We can go two ways, we can attack the season with gusto or our players can go backwards quickly.
What happens if we go backwards ? and we have John signed up for another two years, in the meantime our possible next coach Don Pyke has decided that there is no future at the Swans and moves on, he is our logical replacement for Horse.
This to me means that although as I have said previously that John is a decent and good person, we are stuck for an A grade replacement coach already here.I truly hope that my scenario doesn't happen and we come out firing on all cylinders, but any team that got belted by so much will have a hard time of it.
I have been a long term lurker here for a long, long time, I have noticed that unless if you don't agree with everyone you get attacked by snide comments and an holier than you attitude and that they all know best. Also noticed that members have dropped off.

I'll just let myself out the door now, best of luck to all Swans supporters, we all need a medal!
    Hold on a while, bloodz&guts!
This is a Swans Forum, not a popularity contest. All respectful opinions are welcome and even though there are many disagreements, as there should be as we see things differently, we all support our team and have red and white blood flowing through our veins.

So don’t go- you obviously love and care about the club, and while a lot of us may not agree with you regarding Horse’s extension, your points are fair and well argued. Diverse opinions are needed here- a standout was TheBloods, but we enjoyed his obsession with a certain player and I for one found him entertaining. In the end, that counts for a lot. So please stay and let’s hear more from you!!

You can't deny that our grand final efforts have been extremely poor.
Keep horse, but change the GF prep.

2016 was not a GF loss - it was a robbery!

The two belting's, I would put down to poor coaching, not getting his team mentally prepared for the on coming onslaught from the opposition on the big day. He might be a great human being but when you're in the business of winning premierships which is the main purpose, I think Horse has failed.
I really think a change at the top is needed. To me, the club has made a poor decision.
You aren’t crazy or a heretic for saying that. 1 from 4 is disappointing. We’d much rather 2 or 3.

I’m interested in what happened with Geelong / Chris Scott. Won a premiership early with arguably the previous coaches team and then had a truly horrible record in finals until the 2022 GF.

I think 2014 was a disaster, we choked. 2016 a robbery, but 2022 probably came too soon. I don’t feel disappointed with the result but with the way we lost.

I think Longmire’s got the right to see how far he can take this group …

I don’t think any other team has made four grand finals in the last 11 years.

That puts him in elite territory, arguably third best coach over the last decade, behind Clarkson and Hardwick.

Now imagine a level playing field and no trade ban, no COLA reduction (or requirement in the first place) and also more finals (including grand final) in NSW and at the SCG (instead of being forced to play at ANZ Stadium where Fitzpatrick had a financial interest). That may have us 2-2 or or 3-1 and also making 1-2 more grand finals on top of that.

Also 2014 was tough as Buddy was whacked in the head in the first quarter with no call and then rolled his ankle not long after. And 2016 was decided by the umpires with their vastly uneven umpiring that ended up ruining Hannebery’s career (with the Bulldogs given free licence to play rough) and setting us back in 2017.

I think it is a remarkable record if you look beyond just the 1-3 stat.

Certainly some stuff is frustrating, such as the team selection at times (leaving out Campbell for Bell/Wicks, sticking Mills in defence for so long, Reid for grand final) and some horrible losses against lower sides on paper.

But overall, I think he has done a great job.
A sensible post that considers more than just one stat, ie: 1 out of 4. Good job Maltopia.

I agree with the second part though. Too many playing victim these days....it's what got our anti-Rowbottom friend banned with all his stubborn doubling down.

Well I am breaking my embargo so I can reply to you Goal sneak, I have been a member here since 2004. although I don't post here doesn't mean I don't read R&W. Over the years I have noticed that people who make contrary comments are pounced upon for not being on the same song sheet.
To me , this restricts speech, if someone has a different opinion and as not as it is demeaning or defamatory, I think posters should be able say what they feel. This a football site.
Now I know that some have gone overboard and probably needed to be banned, but as someone who has a different view on our coaching management, I knew from past experiences on this site that my comment would not be welcome, hence the precious remark.
There is no way I would bag any of our players, it is our coaching management I have a concern with, what is the saying? the height of stupidity is trying to the same thing over and over again, and trying and get a different result.
As I said I have been a member for a long time, and I have seen people leave here for Bigfooty, where at least people have the chance to make different opinions, now I believe that this site also needs new blood, if not, it will remain an echo chamber where no critical analyst is allowed.
Slightly over dramatic -no, just an observation of being around here for a long time and observing what happens when you have a different opinion.
I want nothing better than to see the Bloods succeed, but Grand Finals are too hard to come by, and to waste opportunities like we have had seems to me to be more of a coaching management style than anything else.
If we are two and two under Horse, I would call that a success, but to me we have failed and that calls for questions to be asked, football clubs exist to win flags, so far we have been 1 and 3 with Horse, obviously we have the talent , but I think we need a new direction.
Mods , please delete my account from the data base.

                                Some factual observations:

You are right, this is a football site. It's also a forum and as such, there will be disagreements. Everyone has the right to an opinion, everyone has the right to have a contrary opinion, including you.

As for restricting free speech, that is entirely up to the respondent. That's free speech in a nutshell. We all have the same rights. We all have a right to respond.....or we can choose not to respond, therefore the restriction of free speech is on you, no one else.

To be honest, the only 'songsheet' we are all on is the team we barrack for....the Sydney Swans.

So it's up to you whether you contribute....or not. Quite simple really. For what it's worth, I'd like you to stay and contribute.....and just enjoy the banter. Or not....it's up to you.
