Amartey played with the VFL team. From the small sampling of reports he was decent. McAndrew was named in the emergencies for the clash against GC. I wonder if he would be ahead of Amartey for the role at this stage?

I'm more than half anticipating a McAndrew debut this weekend.

The subbing out of Ladhams suggests they are conscious of the vulnerability we have in the ruck, particularly while Hickey is unavailable (and Reid for an indeterminate period, given his history).

They clearly think McAndrew is close to ready and it would be good to get an idea of how close. If you're going to test the water, it makes far more sense to do so against Hawthorn, with a mediocre ruck roster than to throw him in against Grundy and Gawn the following week. Or be forced to throw him in against Grundy and Gawn the following week.

And, of course, a spot has naturally opened up for a taller player this weekend.

I wouldn't worry about our ruck stocks. North Melbourne lost their one ruckman after 5 minutes, went on to lose the hitouts 32-49, but won the clearance count 41-26, and the game as well.

There was one ruck contest in our game when the ump called 'no ruckman' for the Swans, but we won the clearance nonetheless.

Besides, we have 4 ruckmen on our list plus 4 others who regularly take ruck contests, not including Robbie Fox. So we are as rucked up as any club in the comp.

Please no to McAndrew. He needs more time. He will lose both the ruck contest and around the ground. He's also not viable as a forward in AFL just yet. Amartey is the best option.

Meanwhile, away from E.A.R. headquarters. Those who still regard Ruckmen (or Ruckpersons - sorry Ally) as a valuable part of an AFL team, are pondering the Ruck/forward line structure question.

Buddy's out, so if the Swans decide to replace his height it's either Amarty or McAndrew - as Liz pointed out the Hawks would be a comparaively soft initiation for the Lachie.
On the other hand, the Swans may becide to avoid the possibility of cluttering up the forward line (they want to give Logan room to manouvre) and give Warner2 a crack - it it time for the in's and out's thread?

There's been much huff-n-puff about how little you get from plonking a 2nd ruckman in the forward line, but McLean (who is a liability in the ruck) managed 4 marks, 11 possies and a goal with 80% time on ground.
I am wondering whether a second actual ruckman realy would actually contribute less?
If they wouldn't contribute less then why not give a Ladhams/Hickey clombination a go - They'd certainly contribute more in the ruck.

Coaches' votes are in. I'm a little surprised that the votes aren't spread a bit more. It was such an even performance that I found it hard to pick a best list.

I think I'd have snuck Parker in for a vote or two, ahead of Hayward or Mills. I thought he was instrumental in the "crash, bash, territory-by-any means" approach that the team adopted in the second half of the second quarter and throughout the third.

I'm a little surprised that Hayward got a vote ahead of Papley. In my opinion, Hayward was pretty good, whereas Papley did some brilliant things and added a fair bit of extra spark when he attended centre bounces and ruck contests. I also liked the in and under work that Rowell did for the Suns and thought maybe he deserved a vote or two.

What about Reid or is he injured again?

He has a glute strain. At Longmire's post-match presser, he was surprised when a journalist suggested that Reid was touch and go for the Suns game. He seems unlikely for the Hawks game. And as IU2 has said earlier, minor strains have a tendency to keep Reid out for much of the season.

Something I normally wouldn't contemplate, as I've no way of knowing what would be correct. But if I had to make a choice, I'd go Longmire - Witts.

I thought Rampe, Warner and Gulden were our clear stand-out best (in descending order), but thought it was a bit even after that.

That was not a flawless game by any stretch by Chad - in particular some poor execution kicking for goal. So it portends a strong voting season that he's started with an easy 10.

Yeah, I'm fairly confident Longmire was:
5 Warner
4 Rampe
3 Stephens
2 Gulden
1 Hayward.

Longmire would have been stoked with Dylan's game.

Didn't see Reid in the team list for the ressies, or ootf's photo's from the practice game. Surely the match committee won't play him until her is cherry right, or have the forgotten the 24th of September 2022?
I haven't, and I've tried.
