Equal lowest 2nd half score since 1971 I believe too.
It was rock bottom on grand final day, but at least it was grand final day.
This was rock bottom in Rd 6. Very worrying sign to say the last.
Yes we were undermanned, and a loss was not an unexpected outcome. But whereas once you could always expect us to give a game a real red hot go, we now wilt at the first sign of pressure. Our leaders again (like grand final day) were utterly anonymous - we are lacking mature bodies in the middle, but our leaders are so ineffective. And then we handicap ourselves further by taking our best midfielder out to plug gaps down back."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Our leaders again (like grand final day) were utterly anonymous - we are lacking mature bodies in the middle, but our leaders are so ineffective to turning a game. Once upon a time, you could be confident that a couple of the midfielders (players like Bolton, Kirk, O'Keefe at their best) would find a way to get desperate, slow the game up for a few minutes, and grind momentum. We have zero ability to do that at this point in time - partially understandable due to a lack of mature bodies, but none of our leaders seem to be able to do it anymore. It is really sad to watch - was always a hallmark of our teams - under both Roos and Longmire - that more often than not, if we were in a hole, we'd at least find a way to grind back into the contest and give a whimper. This team can not do that at all it seems.
And then we handicap ourselves further by taking our best midfielder out to plug gaps down back."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Touche. Much as i love this forum, it can be a little elitist at times. As in: if you weren't watching them as south Melbourne in the 70s and can offer in depth opinions on the drafting strategy for next year, you tend to be ignored. Which is crap. So welcome! We're all Swans supporters and have just been flogged, so we should be nice to each other.Comment

I was pleased by the way we played the 2nd half. We couldn't afford to lose any more players. I feel bad for Roberts, but he appears to be the only player injured from the game. If we would have upped our intensity it could have come back to hurt us badly. The game was already gone.
We discussed this in the pre-match thread. There was no way for us to be competitive with the personnel we had available. I disagree with sentiments that this was an embarrassment. It's better to face the situation realistically and look for ways to get through the year with a severe shortage of key position players, which may well have ramifications beyond this year.
Injuries have turned this into a development year for us and we should approach it that way. Hopefully we will get back some key players in July and August and close out the season well.Comment
