Maybe so Liz- there can be a fair bit of off the ball play we don’t see. Mind you, I’m not saying he needs to get 20+ possessions but shouldn’t he at least make double figures? The ball was in our forward area a fair bit especially in the first half last week- he should have done a lot more. Then his miss in the last quarter was careless for a player of his experience, from a relatively short distance. We still may not have won the game but boy it would have put some pressure on the Lions! Now anyone can miss a shot at goal- it just looked so bad as he ran much too close to the man on the mark……….

Was at the game and yes he did play forward and a bit in the ruck until the last quarter when he went back and Francis went forward. Not sure why.

I noted earlier that it would be a difficult decision as to who gets dropped for Mills. I'm a big fan of Fox, like most on here, but it actually came down to a choice of dropping Sheldrick or Fox, Given the matchups and the development we want to put into Sheldrick, I am not surprised at all that we dropped Fox. When our team is healthy, selection becomes hard, as it should be. I don't think it's a reflection on the value of Fox.
It makes sense that McCartin would come back through the VFL. We wouldn't want him to have concussion symptoms in the first quarter, would we? He needs to be tested out under more flexible conditions.Comment

Not really. Francis is still in the side. Fox is capable of doing any role that Francis can - better - and a whole load of other roles too.
I'm puzzled by the decision. I hope it's just to give him a bit of breather from a niggle.Comment

Hard to fathom.....Maybe we're trying to boost Francis' confidence but only guessing. Must be more than meets the eye.Comment

The Eagles are playing 3 tall forwards plus 2 ruckmen. Yes, we could have dropped Francis, but I don't think we want to go into games too undersized in defence. We also prefer not being forced to play Blakey as a key defender. I think Longmire wants to find some stability with our key defender coverage, which is why Francis kept his spot. I think Francis will only be dropped for another KPD (McCartin or Arnold).Comment

Sounds logical and would have been explained within the club. Probably more angst on here than amongst the playing group.Comment
