Seeing Melbourne come back from four goals down late in the match filled me with melancholy for we used to be a team that could do that.

Eg that famous win vs the Bombers? when we were 19 points down with three minutes o go and Rohan took the one handed contested mark in the goal square in the dying seconds of the match.

We are so far off the top four teams with a lack of goal kicking (Buddy - major decline due to age and confidence, when is the last time he kicked a goal from outside 50?, Hayward no form or confidence, same with Heeney).

Do we even want to make a miraculous 8th spot and be an embarrassing also-ran?

Winning games feel great for us fans, but we are so far off this year, I think pick 4-5 is better than finishing 8th and being sent packing in an away game vs Geelong or the Bulldogs.

Really silly umpiring decision in the Suns v Saints game that's worth commenting on. Hunter Clark took on the tacklers, got caught, then while on the ground tried to throw the ball at his boot. Instead, he just chucked into the ground.

Obviously a Suns player questioned why that wasn't HTB, because the umpire could be heard replying, "No, he tried to get a kick away".
Not sure if trying is good enough?

Of course, the Saints won the ensuing clearance and ended up scoring.

I reckon the top 8 is getting close to set. Seven of the current top 8 should stay there, with the Saints to tumble out. Adelaide is most likely to jump in given their decent run of home games and current percentage - albeit with a few tough games mixed in.

St Kilda defeated Western Bulldogs in round 2 and Essendon in round 3. Essendon defeated Melbourne in round 5.
