I reckon it hit the post about 10 feet up from the top of the thick padding. The very first sequence shows the ball deviating.
There is another piece of footage as well that shows the same thing (the ball changing its flight path). Maybe that's why
the goal umpire called it a point. I mean he was actually right there and didn't call for review implying he was sure it was a
behind.Comment

I too have an inkling that the goal umpire was right all along.
It was reported (perhaps Gill said it) that the goal umpire said he heard a noise and believed he saw the ball deviate.
As KTigers said above, the umpire was perfectly positioned and confident in his decision.
It is impossible to state with certainty though -and the “official” footage and Gill’s strong statement that had it been reviewed at the time the goal umpire’s call would have been overruled, mean it would now be an un-winnable position to argue.
It perhaps does reinforce the desirability of some boost to the official camera coverage. In this case, if the ball did in fact brush the post it appears it was at the back of the post which the official cameras don’t show.
Or we could simply trust the umpire’s call …
Whatever - I remain appalled by the vilification heaped on the goal umpire.Comment

The pile-on against the goal umpire is just so AFL. They spend all this time virtue signalling about how the umps are sacrosanct
then their spud CEO who was interstate at the time bends over to the mob once again and dumps on the guy and then lays him off.
It's such a dirt bag action by McLachlan. Maybe he's working up to following in the illustrious footsteps of his predecessor, Andrew
"Training College" Demetriou once he actually leaves the building. Seriously, where do they find these people?Comment

Incidentally, the Crows have been all class (anyone else thawed on Dawson as I have? - I've considered Nicks all class since his farewell speech that declared Mickey O was his spiritual brother) and it's the warriors of commentating who keep it running and running. I'll certainly be barracking for the Eagles so they all shut up.Comment

I can’t be 100% certain that he wouldn’t take a bribe. But I am so absolutely certain that he wouldn’t that I’m willing to offer pretty much anything to back that he wouldn’t. He take his role very seriously and isolates any Crows sentiment on match day.
A Venn diagram would look like this
crows O O umpire
He made a call. I expect that in him mind (rightly or wrongly) he was 100% certain that it was a behind, so he backed himself in (which is what he is supposed to do). If he had any doubt, he would have called for a goal review (which is also what he’s supposed to do).
There is a difference between being certain you are right and actually being wrong, but on a Venn Diagram those two events can intersect.
And just to blur the lines further

“The Adelaide Crows will be seeking some sort of recompense in the wake of the goal umpiring blunder that potentially cost them a finals spot. ........the redress being sought could include a favourable fixture, recruiting concessions and travel allowances, among other suggestions.”

Don't agree.....he is the perfect straight man to Sam and Micks funny guys. Thought he was also great on the shows 'The Front Bar' was inspired by, Channel Ten's 'Before The Game' and 'After The Game'.Comment

....I'll say it again, Gulden handballed it. Take those Giants spectacles off....or are they Crows ones?
