Carlton were poor in last night's trial game but I thought Melbourne were impressive. Fast and slick ball movement, took over 20 FF marks! I noticed the pressure rating all game wasn't very high from either side.

Gawn ominously BOG, Clarry Oliver played a full reserves game so wouldn't surprise to see him against us next week but Kosi Pickett is suspended from the QF last season.

Don't want to be too negative on both sides of Logan. I feel Fox's disposal is what let's him down, don't doubt his fitness or endeavour. And this season we have squad depth that we haven't had for many years. My feeling is that Parker may play more of the Wicks role.
If Wicks plays like he did at the back end of last year and even the trial game last week, he’ll be first 22. He plays the role he plays better than anyone on our list right now, and Horse rightly wants a quick, defensively minded small forward. The modern game demands it.

Don't mind him in the team and he would be even more valuable if he kicks straighter. Always seems to generate shots on goal but when he first started, he was quite an accurate kick.

But they are somewhat different to the sublime kicking skills of a Gulden, Campbell or Heeney that can sometimes open chaos up to create something beautiful.

If you don't have those players who can execute the high skilled moves, you probably won't be a good team regardless of how much of the other stuff everyone does. But those moments of creativity and beauty make up a pretty small fraction, timewise, of a game.
Yes, I tend to believe that the main thing that separates the genuinely elite players from the very good, is the speed of their mental processing. That is, seeing what's going around them and then coming up with the most advantageous option.

Watching at home, Errol is the player who most regularly makes me give a little gasp or grunt of appreciation, as he manages to see and hit targets from within heavy traffic. Targets that I hadn't seen with the advantage of a panoramic TV view. And yes, if you define beauty as transcending the mundane, he often creates beautiful things.

Full marks to the club for producing such a professional video

Talking about a visceral impression, another thing that I enjoyed was hearing the solid thwack of a well laid tackle. Campbell and especially Wicks, impressed in that regard.

Let's hope he's right. I haven't seen that much of Jordon, but I'm starting to feel confident.

Sorry but I just don’t see him like that. But to be fair, I’ll give him the chance to prove me wrong, which I’d be more than happy to be for the sake of the team. I hope he has learned from his brain farts and improves his kicking for goal. His tackling can be very good and if he can exert pressure in our forward line without giving away silly frees he will have earned his place.

I just noticed our VFL side kicked 3 goals for the whole game against Brisbane seconds side. Obviously if we get lots of injuries the next level of players will not be up to the standard.

                    When was that game?

It was 7.7 (49) to 0.1 (0) at halftime. Finished 12.11 (83) to 3.10 (28). Only lost by a goal in the second half.Brisbane too strong for young VFL side

Mate, don't come to any judgement about the VFL side from today's game. There are a total of 33 players either playing in tonight's game, being tested as well as Mills and Parker who are injured. I think the VFL side will do much better this coming season. So don't lose hope

The Grundy v Gawn head to head will be worth the price of admission alone!

Before the match has even started, the power has gone out at the ground and the players are heading off. The reaction from Longmire on the bench with Mills when he saw the power go out was funny.

They showed footage of the VFL players sitting in the stands and I noticed Paddy McCartin sitting with them. I've read that he has been sighted at training, so I wonder what role he has at the club.

Edit: And now there's a small snake on the ground!
