As one of Wick’s fiercest critics, I am very happy with his selection and games so fat. Against The Cats, he was invisible early, like most of his teammates, but grew into the game. He did some good things and probably more off screen as has been pointed out by others on here. I’m proud of his improvement.

I barely noticed Wicks watching the game live. Maybe his hair trim made it harder to pick him out.

But watching the replay (several times) I realised just how much good stuff he contributed. He's become a pretty consistent and valuable member of the team.

Yep - there were two things that shone through on the coverage. One was how good Wicks has become in a contested ball situation. He was never soft, but he didn't naturally win the ball in those situations. He was very good on Sunday. And two, how much link work he did. His running prowess has come to the fore and he made himself very useful in a lot of scoring chains. He plays a unique and selfless role in the team, and he'd be in my first 22 without question.

As for Adams, as someone who was a little sceptical of his recruitment - though mainly because of his injury history - I've been deeply impressed. He can be a bit of a butcher with the ball but that's not why we got him. He does a lot of the dirty work at the bottom of packs and tackling, as well as selfless blocks and shepherds. Watch the one he puts on Gulden's opponent before Chad's goal in the second quarter. It's enough to give Errol the half a metre of space he needs to get first hands on the ball and flick it to Chad.

I think our best team is very fluid now week to week as players come back from injury.....

We will all be wrong some weeks re selection due to a serious list we have expanded / and competition for spots.

Roberts has matured and lost the jitters of the previous two seasons.

Patch and Brody have brought a lot to the table.

Parker and Mills still on the road to recovery (Mills still recovering even when a fair few fans doubted up to a 10month recovery --- well July 1st will be the 10th month since the operation but hey the club knew that all along - if the club admitted closer to the finals...........it would have had 4 weeks of media rampage)

Melican looks like a Geelong defensive tall for 10 years now ......wow didnt see that coming in 2024

JJ what a solid link player / shut down / HFF (for some supporters who doubted his utility) is it that small mount small chin thing that some people think is weak? ...........not the 29km yo yos he runs per game which most people would have a heart attack doing

its better than your best ever Minestrone Soup

          siiiiiii !!!!!!

They way it looks it may come down to Parker vs Adams. Wicks is running patterns that are very helpful currently. And unless he starts doing stupid things which he can (he is a lot subdued since the incident), I would keep him along with Hayward as the pressure and running half forwards. I am not sure Parker will have the speed to do that. Unless, Jordan can cover that role if there is no tagging role for him. And that maybe what they will think of. Come September Keep Parker in the team in the middle and rest him forward for that excellent marking capability. Jordan plays the role of wicks and tags if necessary. Mills for Roberts and Roberts as the sub is a no brainer. Unfortunately it means Fox and Campbell will miss out.

We have a long straight run until finals - with no more byes. So we may have to start rotating players as they tire. I suspect that Parker and Mills will be there at the end. And Fox was regarded by the coaches as indispensable before his injury so he will fit back somehow. Whoever misses out will be very, very unlucky.

Parker misses the grand final that we win, and he joins Collingwood in an ironic turn of events

Seriously though, (and this is really for the List Management thread rather than here), when we need to rest some players, I'm interested in

                - whether Hamling will get a game as a key forward when Logan or Amartey need a rest. The club must have a reason for playing him up forward repeatedly in the VFL, and he has been kicking loads of them, five in his last match.
                - whether Corey Warner doing enough in the seconds to get a game anymore or is Cleary overtaking him?
                - whether we will see Pete Ladhams in the senior team this year

Suspect Mitchell is probably in front of Warner at the moment too.

i must say I still find t amazing that Parker has not been given much support on this forum.

I would not like to bet against Luke Parker.

Give him a sniff and he could steamroll into a best 22 in the blink of an eye.

Parker will find a role in the 23, I'd be very surprised if he doesn't - still think it might be spending time up forward and then rolling through midfield, like Mills may spend time on half back line and roll through midfield. But who goes out is a very tough question for any of the players trying to force their way back in.

The competition for places is fierce however - something almost every good team has.

that's exactly what we want; driving even higher levels of performance

If we win, it is going to be heartbreaking for at least three players:

Parker and Mills may force someone out who have played over half the season and got us into the finals, plus Fox may also push someone out (or miss out himself).

Looks like Campbell, Roberts and Wicks unless other injuries.
