Not exactly. They have the real bye the following weekend. This coming weekend there are no VFL matches at all, in order to make room for a representative game (against the SANFL?)

So that's a three week break between Sunday's game and the next one the VFL team plays.

Unless I'm missing something, I thought Cunningham will not be available for selection this weekend in line with the AFL's new 21 day concussion policy?

That’s for leagues below AFL level, where 12 days remains the rule. The AFL makes the distinction in level of medical care and diagnosis available to players at AFL clubs.

Why not let Cunningham have a longer recovery? If you leave him out this week he has an additional two weeks. Its concussion. Give him time.

Longmire says “Taylor Adams, if he gets through training today, will play." And Sam Wicks: “He'll be available for selection. We're working through that at the moment."

And lots more interesting stuff, including some quotes about signings.

Key Quotes: John Longmire, Round 4

Wicks really should have played last week instead of Warner. Now Hamling is out too, I would bring Wicks in this week and send Fox back to cover Rampe.

Losing Rampe is a lot of experience. Taylor is very experienced, but not with our game plan nor playing with our team, just a single pre-season.

So I think he we need to bring in Wicks, as well as Cunningham if he is ready, if not, then Francis.

                So my revised in/outs:

Out: Rampe (inj), Corey Warner, Mitchell

                In: Francis/Cunningham, Taylor, Wicks

Taylor will play if fit. Confirmed by Longmire.

I think Hamling is highly underrated here, if he can get himself on the park I suspect he’ll be our no 1 key defender

Training at Prospect Oval 11am Friday.

Being starved of up close Swans stuff here in Adelaide, I'll be there at Prospect Oval, Haywards U18 club and ground

More likely overrated I saw him live last year v East Freo and he was really ordinary (guess we where desperate for depth)

Adams, Hamling and Cunningham in for Rampe, Mitchell and Warner

They will give Amartey another go.. it is worth persevering for another week

Longmire said that Hamling is recovering from "a touch of pneumonia", so not sure if he will be available.

Interestingly he said that there were other players that were sick last week, so I wonder if they played in the seniors. It might explain our lacklustre performance.

I was able to be in Melbourne last weekend to watch us live vs Richmond.

The main concern I had was that we allowed ourselves to be caught in possession whilst looking for targets downfield. Why?

Vlauston’s positioning was impeccable, but he was allowed to be so active because our three talls were either so high that they were unable to present or already manned up.

Richmond’s speed out of defence was another issue, none of the talls have enough acceleration to foot it with their opponents on turnover so when this happened Richmond were off to the races and our forwards Hayward included were all trailing.

This is not a criticism but an observation.

To address this problem is difficult. We have great balance in our forward line but all our speed is in defence. They tried Campbell in the pocket and he did well there but besides him and Papley we were out of cattle.

Mitchell tried hard and showed good initiatives but kept getting beaten in one on one contests, similarly Corey needs to beef up so as to be more competitive in the contest.

I believe they played McInerney on the wrong side, allowing Lloyd to play on macintosh gave him too much freedom to run.

                                So after all that:

                                Outs: Corey Warner, McLean, Rampe

                                Ins: Wicks, Cunningham, Francis

I would continue to use Armartey but use him as the relieving ruck. He was our best tall target up forward and is the most mobile.

If he fails in this role then he would have had his best chance and (gulp!!) Ladhams should get his chance.
