I watched the game last night, and

    - like others, I was very impressed by Reid. He is so balanced and strong through the legs/hips. I recall him shrugging off five tackles, but the commentators said seven (including don’t argue/fend offs?)

    - the Eagles were very competitive for long parts of the game and don’t seem like the easy beats of last year, yet Port and GWS hammered them. So we caught them on one of their good days (and there will be more of those for them this year)

    - the 26 point margin was a bit flattering for the Eagles because they had very high accuracy with several under pressure snaps, whereas we had several hit the post and some relatively easy set shot misses. Logan and Amartey were very inaccurate if you remove eg, Amartey running into the open goal square off the McLean handball.

    - the game was actually entertaining to watch, though very painful to read about online in the first half, very lively and sure we had some stupid mistakes, like Blakey kicking under no pressure to an option player, but there were not lots of frustrating inconsistent umpiring calls. I only remember one for each team that I thought was a bit stiff, late in the second half. How nice to have a game where the umps are not ruining the game!

    - Lloyd looked a bit lost out there, outmarked early and only a dozen possessions for the day

    - Jordon and Campbell had quiet days, but both had some good moments

    - Fox is lively as a forward this season, good to see him have consistently up front

    - I said this earlier, but Hayward had one of his best games (auditioning for Crows/Port!) with 18 possessions and 2 goals.

    - Mitchell sub situation was a farce to me. He was activated with just under 6 minutes left and didn’t get onto the ground for another 3 minutes of game time as the play was on the other side etc. They should have gotten him ready so that he could come off as soon as Taylor came off, or activated earlier. We don’t gift games or game time, but why send someone interstate for their second game and have them sit on the bench for two hours, and only run on in the final two and a half minutes minutes?

Anyway, watching the game after, knowing we won was actually a pleasant experience!

Was on the road so had it on the radio, havent watched it, not sure i want to but -

West Coast with Mcgovern, Barrass and Yeo playing are at least a 6 goal better team.

We have an issue down back with support for Tom Mc and upfront with consistency.

Fox is Rampe V2, he should go back and do that role.
Hamling and the Peel Ruck were the reason East Freo didnt win the GF by 15goals, he can play.

Tom Mc, Melican, Hamling, Fox allows the others to run off and Tom himself to intercept more.

I still cant believe how Ladhams is being held out of this side. Amartey doesnt next to nothing most weeks and bobs up for 2 goals and he is bullet proof. We need to leave Mclean fwd and let Ladhams be the backup.

Is must be worth putting Lloyd on the wing and leave the rebound for Blakey, Jmac and Campbell.

The bye seems to have come at a good time

I was at both finals Hamilings men (Leggit and McGuire) beat each game, also he has been out of the VFL due to illness and if you can get a chance to watch the reserves you will see why Ladhams is being made to wait, I agree he should be in BUT his discipline or lack of it and his brain fades could be costly at senior level - I do agree with you we need help down back and a forward who can make a contest

Peel didn't get the ball past the centre for 3/4 of the game, Hamling did well to help limit East Freo to 85pts when they had 20 more I50s and 80 more disposals.

With Ladhams id risk a brain fade over a player that fades out of the game for 3 qtrs

In the most recent VFL game (against Richmond), not only did Ladhams give away free kicks (and got himself reported) through ill-discipline, he also contributed precisely nothing up forward and not a huge amount in the ruck.

He has played 2 VFL games
Kick 4 goals in 1 of them and had 20 touches in both of them including 9 clearances in the 2nd one.

If Mclean or Amartey kicked 4 in the 2s people would be begging to get them back in

The first match was against a team that finished last, last year and will most likely do so again and probably won’t win a game and the last game he was one of the main reasons we lost - that’s the reason he isn’t in the senior group - if he could string it all together I’d have in the seniors in a heart beat, but at the moment he’s not showing he has the temperament and they are playing him almost exclusively forward, I am assuming trying to groom him to fill one of those forward spots. (I am not trying to be argumentative just trying providing a reason/perspective)

Just watched the replay and really noticed how the Swans moved the game to a different level in the last quarter. This is what good sides do. Flick the switch. So not that disappointing. As for all the talk around Reid, he seems to be very armsy(always pushing away ). I believe after a while players will learn to grab his left arm rather than the body.

Really think Hamling is being underrated, when fit he is a very good player

Interesting that Harley Reid was giving Errol a mouthful after Errol got a free. Errol passed to a teammate then took off and took a hand pass and kicked to a swan. Where was HR? Jogging ten metres behind him. Lesson in hard work Harley.

I noticed that too. Errol left Reid in his wake. No doubt Reid will be a terrific player, and he’s clearly monstered the other kids in junior footy, but teams will go to work on him. After his good performance on Saturday, probably a bit earlier than he or the Eagles would have liked.

                          Happy with the different viewpoints

                          Ladhams is 26
                          Mclean is 25
                          Amartey is 24 turning 25

I feel like Ladhams is more capable and being held to a way higher standard and the other 2 are given a chance to settle in.

In 5 games, they have kicked 13 goals between them.

Anyone would think, the 2 playing are kids and Ladhams is an old man

Ladhams unfortunately is 26 going on 18 if you look at the carry on. Temperament is his problem, not ability.

Yes, self confidence is one thing (and essential to make it as an elite AFL player). Arrogance so early in his career is another. It grated me —though I know other AFL fans will applaud it.

Yes, the commentators were getting pretty excited about him (Reid), weren't they? I suspect one day he is going to run into Charlie Dixon or
Jeremy Cameron or Jesse Hogan or Bontempelli and he will just be collateral damage like most of their opponents.
