No he didn't. I started watching a couple of minutes after the kick off, so if the commentators gave a reason why, I didn't hear it. Francis missed the last quarter and the commentators suggested that they thought he was being rested, rather than injured. Neither were on this week's injury list.

It's possible that they were both being preserved for the Fremantle game, but I don't know? Seems excessively cautious?

Parker in. He will spend some time across half forward.
Need another ruck because Fremantle play with two. Either McLean will take that role, or Ladhams comes in to the side.
Fox will cover McCartin's absence in the back line, and Blakey make take that role as well.

      McCartin out due to concussion.
I'm expecting one more change here. I'm guessing Amartey gets omitted. 7 disposals in 2 weeks is a bit quiet.

      In: Parker, Ladhams.
      Out: McCartin (concussion), Amartey (omitted).
I agree with this - only question mark Ladhams didnt play in the 2s last week and Wicks as sub

Absolutely Amartey out before Mclean - reckon and Fox is a perfect matchup for Frederick

Who plays on Jackson when he is up forward for 10 minutes or so per quarter? That is a massive task. Need Francis I think as well.

          So maybe:

          Ladhams for Amartey
          Francis for McCartin
          Parker for Wicks
          Fox stays as sub.

John mentioned in the press conference on Tuesday that Ladhams didn't play vfl because he was a bit sick.

Lachlan McKirdy (Tele) reporting Parker stayed in Melbourne for another VFL game, and Francis will come in for McCartin. He's a good reporter, and not prone to speculation, so I take it as given.

I'll say this carefully as Parker is a goddamn legend of this club and I reckon as we get into the slog of winter and the big end of season games, he'll find his way back in.

But right now, our midfield is wonderfully balanced. Grundy - tick. You've got Adams and Rowie doing the dirty stuff, Heeney doing tough stuff and class stuff, Chad and Errol killing slides on offense in different ways (and Chad showing a new defensive side he hadn't exhibited before), Lloyd now doing a wing role well after a slow start to the year, and McInerney and Jordon doing whatever roles the coach asks of them. And that's before we get to any pinch hitting contributions from the likes of a Papley. It's a splendid mix and everyone is in great form.

Now, injuries, form, team cohesion and strategy etc fluctuates. But I can see right now why Longmire is struggling to give him a role in the guts.

(I know people will scream Amartey, but Horse seems intent on the three tall strategy.)

Makes sense. Although, my money would've been on Ladhams getting confused by the academy game happening at the same time and driving out to Blacktown, instead of the SCG.

Just one forced change, with Francis coming in for McCartin, who's in concussion protocol, even though he's apparently fine. Mitchell, Ladhams and Campbell are the emergencies.

It doesn't matter if McCartin is fine. The rules state that if a player has concussion, they can't play for a minimum of 12 days.

Again, my speculation on team selection has been inaccurate. I can live with this.

Francis in for McCartin (concussion) is a good choice.

Parker not being named is interesting. The only thing I can think of is avoiding the trip to Perth in a first game back.

Last year we had a great win over Freo in Perth, came back to the SCG and that very next game Buddy, Parker and McInerney suffered soft tissue injuries. It might have been a coincidence, but I am suspicious of the hardness of the Optus Stadium ground. And then there's the long flight on top of things. So I can understand if they've decided it's not a great first match for Parker.

If he doesn't get selected next week, then we can start wondering if he has a place in the team. (Or wondering if the coaches think he has a place in the team.)
