Team List Rnd 14- Pre Match Thread - vs Adelaide, at Adelaide Oval, Saturday 15 June 2024, 7:30 PM (AEST)

Chance for us to go 3 games clear at the top of the ladder (as Carlton have a bye).

Hope we don't have another slow start, but my, it was exciting when we made our comeback last week!

    No changes I imagine.

I'd be keen to get a view from those at the ground on Roberts' game. On the coverage, there were a few plays up on the wing where his defensive efforts, including a couple in the last quarter when Geelong were having one last crack, looked off.

I'm not trying to hang or drop the guy as I like what he's done this season, and I recognise the coverage doesn't give you that much of an insight into his overall game. But I also reckon it's the stuff Horse would have zero tolerance for.

I thought Roberts was okay against Geelong - but just okay. He was light on possessions wise and distance gained, but still took 5 marks and had 3 clearances too, so did still have some impact on the contest.

Assuming Fox is not yet fit, and with Campbell not exactly lighting up the stage, I suspect he will retain his spot for the time being (though of course he and Campbell could be swapped as well).

On the basis of exposed form, the game against Adelaide should be a comfortable win. But I think it is potentially a danger game, if they get early momentum and a decent jump on us, and the feral element of the crowd (which will be loud - at least early) then gets a chance to become influential.

We just need to come out ready to match the high level of pressure they will bring. DO that, and I think we will comfortably manage what threat they do offer, and grind them down over the course of the game (as we have so many other teams). While their season has been very poor, they've had patches in a few matches involving some decent footy, closer in character to what they produced last year, so their ability shouldn't be underestimated - especially if they get a couple back from their injury list, in particular Rankine.

They’ll probably get Tex and Rankine back too. Think it could be a sterner test than their ladder position suggests

Adelaide are copping it in the media over there, so I'm sure they'll come out firing. Plus I have a sneaky suspicion that a certain goal umpiring error involving a goal post might be brought up once or twice ????. The crowd is going to be feral!

            Danger game!

I want us to put this beyond doubt early.

Quick turn-around game, home crowd very grumpy with the Crows, what a triumph for them if they could see the ladder
              Leaders off.

Horse will be treating them with respect.

Our poor starts have been an issue. I hope we put some measures in place to address it.

He was already at it in his press conference today, talking up their numbers in a lot of key areas.

I’ll be fascinated with how we use JJ this weekend. The Crows don’t really have a game breaking half back, so he may well do what he did with Carlton - start outside the square, roll up from half forward and allow Heeney or Warner to move ahead of the ball. Whether that turns into a tag on Dawson like he did on Walsh, or just an extra mid, we will see.

Definitely a danger game. It will be harder to catch up from behind with a feral crowd booing the Crows home.

I want to see us in front at quarter time, preferably by enough to silence the crowd early.

No change for us. Adelaide get Rankine back, but not Walker.

Channel 7 are advertising their coverage of the game by re-visiting footage of the "goal that was given a behind" the last time we played Adelaide. They show the footy not hitting the post and then show the goal umpire signalling a behind.

Not enough that the AFL threw the umpire under the bus - now Channel 7 are doing it, too!

There will be plenty of hatred directed at our boys Saturday night. Fortunately, we have a team of very tough Cygnets!

I saw the ad last night. It's not a surprise. I expect it be mentioned a million times on Saturday night.

Let's smash them from the first quarter and keep their feral supporters quiet.

It looked as if in the last quarter Geelong went 1 on 1 defensive structure against us rather than the zoning defence and it created some turnovers in forward half for them and it resulted in goals for them. Adelaide will probably look at that and will be close up defence and be aggressive for the forward half turnovers. Not sure they have the game to sustain it though. I reckon they will go all out attack on ball carrier and get exposed the other way. Hopefully a 5 goal win again. Horse will kill the speed in this game and get the defensive structure right to win.

Who will we put on Rankine? He was in really good form before his injury.
