Team List Rnd 19 Pre-Match Thread, vs Brisbane at the GABBA 1:10 PM Sunday 21 July 2024

Brisbane have slipped into the Top 4 after Fremantle were upset by the Hawks, and Essendon were undone by an undermanned Melbourne.

As others have pointed out, we don't have a great record vs Brisbane, and the AFL's partner bookmaker have them as slight $1.84 favourites.

However, Charlie Cameron may be out, and we will get Heeney back, so I am confident we will beat them.

Be nice to win and keep the morale and momentum (and restore the aura about us being so much better than everyone else this year), but not a huge problem if we have close loss.

Cunningham should be ready to return, but will likely have to wait to get back in the team given we just won, and both Roberts and Campbell were good on the weekend.

    Ins: Heeney
    Outs: McInerney (injured)

SEN has the following article: The big talking points and questions out of Round 18.

They have a few remarks about Sydney "A huge selection squeeze is imminent at Sydney" in which they discuss the selection dilemmas in the midfield.

I wouldn't risk Cunningham especially with Cameron suspended. His hamstring needs to be 100% as he will be very important for us especially for Finals.

Agreed- no need to rush him back.
              Ins: Heeney, Parks
              Out: JMac (inj.), Roberts/Campbell (sub)

Do we think Sam Reid is any chance of coming into the team if Amartey continues to be a problem over the next few weeks? I hope not coz I worry of him breaking down in the middle of the match. But Amartey needs to keep working on reducing the gap between his best and worst.

Sam has sticky hands and always clunks a few every game and this current side would be the most skilled he has ever had feeding him the ball.

Got to be a distinct possibility if Amartey doesn't have more impact.

                    No chance
This is what Amartey does, gets the luxury of a quiet month, kicks 2 get another month guarenteed.

Time has passed to drop him, 30+ goals, he ain't t going anywhere

Horse confirmed Heeney and Harry (likely) to come in this week.

Said Parker pulled up well and Mills a bit stiff but should be ok. Wouldn't be surprised if they swapped the subs vest this week.

Also confirmed McInerney will be in a brace for two weeks, then they'll see from there. Still devastated won't get to see my fave run around at the Gabba this week.

I hope McInerney isn't out for too long, as he's been very good this season. The injury doesn't appear to be too severe, so to have him back a couple of weeks before the finals would be handy.

And Horse did seem keen for Cunningham to come back in. Which suggests that he's valued by the coaching staff. Not sure who goes out for him, though? Perhaps Roberts, perhaps Campbell or maybe even Lloyd? Personally I hope Campbell stays in and is given a bit more wing time in McInerney's absence, as it is the position that he usually played as a junior.

Not this week because they will be reluctant to change a winning team, but both Armartey and McLean need keep playing well because Sam Reid can play either position, and is arguably a better key forward or second ruckman. Good position to be in, and shows the depth of the squad.

Agree Campbell is building, want him to stay in

As much as I'm keen to drop Lloyd, he'll probably replace Juzzy on the wing
