    Aker signs book deal

    Aker signs book deal
    April 27, 2004

BRISBANE Lions star Jason Akermanis has signed a deal with Geoff Slattery Publishing to publish his autobiography in November.

The yet to be named book, which Akermanis will write in conjunction with Courier Mail journalist Gary Smart, will reveal what drives the larrikin midfielder and 2001 Brownlow Medallist on and off the field.

Major influences on his life, like his family and Brisbane coach Leigh Matthews, are expected to figure prominently along with football and non-football related incidents.

"What we want is to give readers an idea of what makes this guy tick," said Smart.

"It's fair enough to say it will raise a few eyebrows, he's a guy that's very open and honest."

I can't think of anything worse than reading a book by this clown. He's like a broken record with his pre-game sledging of opponents, especially Crouchy.

So he's now not only believing his own press, he's writing it too?

    Sigh.

Chapters 7-12 will have to be dedicated to "Excuses I've found for Crouchy kicking my ass."

No, he's a poor misunderstood sole who gets the raw end of the stick. Check out the following comments from an article in yesterday's Age

"He almost knocked me over and said I was not respected and not liked at my football club, as if he'd know. Then decided to call me a f--kwit," Akermanis said. "To behave like that is very disappointing and certainly not what I'd describe as sportsmanship."

I hope a certain opposition player was disappointed last year when he launched into a post-siren verbal assault on a Lions player after a tremendous win. There is no place in football for arrogance. It shows a lack of class," Voss wrote.

          (Emphasis mine)

While not condoning the alleged actions of an unnamed St Kilda player, it seems young Jase has mixed views of what is sportsmanlike and his captain has an arrogance filter for some of those around him.

I read that with interest too because I reckon it was the most direct thing that Michael Voss has ever put on public record.

Normally he never answers the question asked of him. He is like an undereducated politician whose question avoidance is not clever enough.

Well, they really aren't paid to open their Bong Holes so we shouldn't expect anything brilliant.

I can imagine reading Acnemanis' book in the book shop because I really don't want to line his bulging pockets anymore than they already are.

I think he may have been taking the piss a bit.

It's easy to take the printed text out of context.

              I'd read his book.
              Probably wouldn't buy it though

I think I'll wait for the coming to a Library near you before I read it.

I wonder what he'll call it.

                perhaps it could be

Aker speak: Misunderstood and Under appreciated
Human speak: Wanker who no body likes

Maybe "There is an I in team afterall".

Or "How to lie about interest from the Swans to help along contract negotiations"

But according to David Brent (The Office) - There is not I in team but if you look hard enough you'll find a "me"!

That type of cover would so definitely be Jason Akermanis and signifies what he is: arrogant and attention seeking

Could possibly read the book at a library (it'd be a good laugh ), but to spend my hard earned cash on that? I don't think so.

I don't necessarily agree with everything he say's or does, but I enjoy the way he is not scared to stick it up the Melbourne-centric media types.

Rather have to watch Aker than robots like Lloyd and Buckley and co.

But on top of it all, he not only talks the talk, he walks the walk. Certainly a great player.
