Brisbane - The Team to Beat

After seeing the Brisbane lions up close tonight, against a team that are widely regarded as serious flag chance (Essendon), and destroying them so convincingly on their on home turf, with 7, yes 7, of their premiership players out, rams home the point that this super football team is the team to beat, no doubt about it, this year, and for many years to come.

I'll be seriously thinking of putting money of them for a 6 peat, yes that's right folks, a 6 PEAT.

    Go Lions!

But I agree about Brisbane. They are favourites again this year which must really get right up Eddie's nose. The only thing I'd like better than another Brisbane victory is a Sydney premiership.

And when you think they were missing Lynch, Caracella, Keating, McDonald, McRae, Hart and Brad Scott, it is pretty imposing. And then you look at the quality of player that will miss out when these guys come back and you realise just how deep their list is. I know I wouldn't mind having a couple of their fringe players on our list.

      I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

I'm not sure that their team would have been much better had those players been in, though. Sure, it says a lot for their depth but not so much about how good they can be (though when you play as well as they played last week, that hardly matters).

Lynch wouldn't have scored most of those goals that Bradshaw got last night because he isn't as agile. McRae has been a quality player, but is probably in the last year or so of his career and may not have contributed much more than Corrie did. Who would make way for Hart? Possibly Hadley, who has been in excellent form this year. Having one of their ruckmen back might have made them better, but probably only one.

The core of their team all played last night (Keating aside) and all played superbly. The only "light" for other teams must be a question mark over how much longer Voss can keep going. He was awesome last night, but he's not able to play that well every week anymore - though if he gets himself up for the big games, maybe that hardly matters. And it is so wonderful watching a player of that class play, that "hoping" he is on the decline so that the Lions start to come back to the pack is selfish and petty.

I was at that game last night, and Brisbane were absolutely awesome. I don't think I've ever seen a team play so well.
The only team that can stop Brisbane winning the flag this year is Brisbane, by not playing at their best when the finals are on. But I can't see that happening.

I could'nt believe how the Lions blew the Bombers away in the 2nd half, by the tune of 85 -26. It's going to take a herculean performance by somebody to bump them off.

They certainly are going to be premiers this year, at least there is no doubt in my mind about that.
