aside from buckley even when collingwood are good its more just an even team effort no players you even think of as all australian....... tho as i type i though tarrent maybe but thats about it..

    as for my team...

i just think pick the best 22 for the year and give them all australian.... why leave out someone who was great cos he was the 7th best but the top 6 are all midfielders... ie.. say hypothetically the top 7 players in the afl this year are voss, lappin, west, maxfield, crawford, akkermanis and bell

why leave bell out cos he doesnt play a set position

maybe if the team actually played a game :P oh well i dont know i stand by my pick of lappin off half back i think he could do it... dal santo in the back pocket it more to just squeeze him in

ugg ur team is great tho i dont see how nigel lappin could miss all together this year

    and
Theres not much left to say

The big question is how do you compare defenders to midfielders and midfielders to forwards. There is no doubt that the performances of defenders are underrated because their output is not as easily quantified as midfielders or forwards (disposals and goals respectively). It is a team that is being named after all, so I think we have to respect and reward the better defenders in the comp rather than squeezing midfielders into back pockets etc.

As for Lappin, he is certainly up there in contention, its just that there are so many midfielders competing for 7-9 spots. Other midfielders who were unlucky include Adem Yze, Kane Cornes, Scott West, Shannon Grant, Peter Burgoyne and Brad Green.

oh yeh guess so all well
i still stand by my selection of lappin
dalsanto is a bit stupid in hindsight but oh well
selecting a team made me appreciate how hard it is to squeeze people in and not forget others

Don't worry mate, the real AA selectors have been known to do it too. Pavlich at CHB two years ago and of course Lappin on a HBF. Any AA team will always be contentious as many good players will miss out.

Goodes in the ruck could also be said to be controversial in the same manner. He was, afterall, 2nd choice ruck behind Ball all season, until Ball got injured.

ugg, overall your team looks pretty good - the ones I would question are Cousins, Harvey and Simpson - would have Nigel Lappin over Cousins (as swansrule100 said), not quite sure who I would have instead of Harvey and Simpson though - maybe Brown off the bench into the FP for Harvey with the other Nathan Brown from Melb getting a spot on the bench and maybe Scott West in for Simpson, but I'm not be any means hung up on that selection.

              I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Swans100, the purpose of the AA Team is to select the BEST players for EACH POSITION. If you wanted the best 22 all year, wouldnt that just be the top 22 in the Brownlow count?? You can not put someone in a position just because they have had a good season, they have had to have had a good season in THAT position. Pretty simple.

yeh but say you have someone like lappin... he may not play half back flank much... but he would be awesome there and is a better pick there than picking a permanent half back who wasnt as good.....

                      besides the team doesnt play

The only good thing about him playing there would be his run and creativity. His defensive skills wouldn't be up to scratch.

The are many more players who have earnt half back flank this year, as discussed earlier, there is a handful of players who deserve HBF before Lappin, that's all were saying.
