best coach and captain in the afl

Where do people think roos and maxfield rate in this regard. On the couch they discussed maxfields success as captain i think he really surprised me. I expected he could do it, but hes been even better.

Roosy is a revelation as coach.

Personally id rank the pair as #2 (if you group coaches and captains as a combination) behind Matthews and Voss.

Ive got the feeling most would put hird and sheedy, buckley and malthouse and maybe even hayes and thomas ahead...but i really think we have a great combo there...any thoughts?

Roos hasn't done anything too revolutionary IMO, I do think he is a good coach and has done very very well with us so far and does have the makings of a great one but premierships are the only thing you are judged by as a coach and fingers crossed he will get us one

Very hard to fault the likes of Sheedy, Matthews and Malthouse, teams generally always make the finals and at least occasionally win something. Also, Pagan is doing very well with Carlton, he took them over as wooden spooners, and he has hardly had a draft pick for the past two years.

I do think Maxfield is the best "workman" like captain in the league and a great captain of the Swans, but probably behind Hird, Voss, Buckley and Cousins in terms of how they captain their club and the on field brilliance they bring with it.

yeh i tend to be biasd....

roosy seems to be the first coach to be a truley calm players man...someone who is very very friendly with his team perhaps ??

stewie is good he is not as good a player as some other captains nowadays but has done a fantastic job
he revived his career really not long ago he seemed to be a bench player on for impact and not happy.

I read once richmond could have had tony lockett, all they had to do was give stkilda one or more of knights, campbell, free and maxfield. We got stewie the year after , if richmond werent so stupid wed be a very different team... if we still existed at all. Without lockett roos prolly would of gone to adelaide, we dont have stewiw or barry hall might not of come (cos seeing how lockett went influenced him) etc
