Winds of change at the G

Winds of Change at the 'G

Interesting article on AFL website about the effect that the lack of a Ponsford stand at the MCG will have on the winds blowing into the ground. Probably won't be a big issue for the Swans since they've only got 3 games there, but it could have a big impact on matches especially on cold, windy, winter days (Melbourne must have a lot of those). It's one of those things that I'd hate to see decide a close final.

It's a good point, especially if there's a fierce westerley - normally the wind isn't really a factor at the MCG; but there could be a scoring end there now.
But with no stand at that end, the whole ground just doesn't look right. I was there at the Boxing Day Test, and it was weird seeing the trains rolling past and a crowd of people standing on the bridge over the railway line having a free look at the action.
