Geez Eade gets a hard time from some fans. Considering he was the first swans coach in about 7 million years to win a final I think he deserves a little bit of praise. (He also remains the only swans coach in history to win a final in Sydney )

He simply ran out of steam with us. No one will ever know how much pressure was on him to keep this side competitive without an eye for the future.

We had such pathetic support pre 1996, that once the crowds start rolling back in, the biggest objective was to keep them rolling in. I think it would have been tough work being our coach after 1996. Not being allowed to think - well if I play 6 youngins for the rest of the year, that could really set us up for a tilt next year would have been very difficult.

I think he will be fantastic at another club. Hope he kicks some butt.

and.....Shannon Grant would have gone back to Melbourne even if God (the one upstairs not from Geelong lol) himself was coaching us.

My impression is that most people on this site are glad we didn't get Wallace - why think anyone else would prefer him to Eade? Rocket seems to have mellowed since his days with us. If I were looking for a coach I'd take him in front of any of the other candidates mentioned. He's smart, he's kept in touch, he is generally acknowledged as a very good match day coach. If he's prepared to go to the Bulldogs they won't regret it.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

        eade was a good coach

according to the afl site craig gets the crows job tomorrow, eade will get the hawks job surely??? ayres is damaged beyone repair and they seem to want experience. Unless Malcolm Blight wants to coach again (lol) they will take eade! i mean if they want a premiership coach its slim pickings

since 1983 premiership coaches are (correct me if wrong)

        Allan Jeans
        Kevin Sheedy
        Robert Walls
        Allan Joyce
        Leigh Matthews
        Mick Malthouse
        David Parkin
        Dennis Pagan
        Malcolm Blight

already had jeans and joyce anyway... parkin they had in a way recently (and of course had him in the 70s)

        leaves walls and blight free

so eade has no real competition i can see and would be a great choice at the hawks

Mark Harvey doesnt seem to want the dogs.... does anyone?? im about to finish uni id take the job

Have the feeling that Rocket will coach the Dogs...rumours flying around that the AFL are 'very supportive' of the Dogs going after Eade.

Surely the Dogs will want some type of experience at the senior level.

Ayres is a Hawks legend - I am not convinced they think he is damaged, although outside pressures may hurt him.

Eade is a big chance - but rumour has it that they are trying to lure Pagan away. I would be totally intrigued to see who they (Carlton) went after if Pagan was released....

Eade to Dogs is his only real chance of getting a coaching job and resurrecting his reputation.

Would still earn him around $400k p.a. so nothing to sneeze at. Shouldn't harm his reputation too much either as no-one will expect too much from the Dogs.

I say go for it Eade!

Agree. He certainly seems to have gained an insight to his coaching style which is reflected in his article(s) earlier this year. I wish him well (except against us!).

He obviously likes a challenge. He took on the swans when they were a rabble and now the dogs when they are a rabble!!!

interesting to see how he goes with that list. cooney and ray are obviously too early to tell, but there are too many passengers as far as i can see. their best players week in week out are the older guys, which is to be expected, but there is too big a gap between them, and the third or fourth year guys (giansiracusa for instance). i haven't seen enough of them this yar to be more objective, time will tell.
