    Pies just won't let up

Read Eddie's latest proposal for reducing the Lions' salary cap concessions.

Suspect he never studied at school monetary policy. What effect does he think a sudden increase of $400k to the salary caps of every other team is going to have, other than increase total league player payments for 2005 by around $6m. Plus it will either cost the AFL around $2m to fund the additional allowance for the five or so clubs that couldn't afford to pay it out of their own coffers, or increase the salary cap differential between the haves and have-nots.

The chance of this extra money causing many Lions players of significance leaving Brisbane at the end of next month is pretty slim. The chance of a raid on the playing lists of Melbourne and the Dogs is probably more real.

Has Eddie forgotten that, within the past year, he and his fellow club presidents agreed to a plan that will reduce the differential over the next two years? It was pretty clear when they agreed to the amendment that the Lions would be favourites to win this year's flag. So what's changed now?

Interesting in the weekend paper, Sheedy suggested they take the extra cap from Brisbane and give it to Sydney, let the Swans win a premiership and then cut it out.
