What I'd like to see Fox Footy give us-

          - SANFL, WAFL and VFL finals series live, including the Grand Final
          - blockbuster SANFL and WAFL games (e.g. Fremantle derbies) live
          - the possibility of NTFL (Tas), NTFL (NT), Ovens & Murray, Goulburn Valley and ACTAFL Grand Finals being shown on TV

guess they presume about 2 people would watch it'

maybe a weekly show summarising all those leagues would be better i think

But is the job of a broadcaster merely the amount of people watching.

ALL broadcasters should have a duty to promte the game as a whole, not just its highest standard and profile league.

To say that leagues such as the SANFL and WAFL have no following is also wrong. Maybe the WAFL is a bit thin on the ground these days, but there still are a lot of passionate people who still support their SANFL club.

Am surprised though that they only got 24000 to the SANFL GF. That would have to be a huge disappointment.

I guess people are bored of seeing the 10 Pound Pommies from Lizbuf winning premierships (and destroying things like their Bulldog friends in Sydney.)

I don't think even Centrals fans would match those from Canterbury in that department, but let's not get into that now.

As for the crowd, I think it's very disappointing and somewhat sad as it's the worst post-war SANFL GF attendence. I'm sure that if it were a team like Sturt and/or North, there would have been a much larger crowd.

And the other leagues I mentioned? Look at the crowds the Ovens & Murray and Goulburn Valley Grand Finals are able to get- in excess of 10,000 most of the time which is very impressive for country leagues. Several other local leagues are capable of pulling decent 5-10,000 crowds to Grand Finals too.

well the sanfl supporters more than likely live in sa and can go to games

its silly to think there can be full coverage on one channel of every league

and even just the sanfl and wafl when do they go on fox footy??? instead of afl matches on a weekend?? or u just want replays during the week? why send a crew there for that

i think the manager is there to ensure money isnt pissed down the drain

Well coverage of more important games at least- I mentioned finals games and blockbuster minor round matches which still have potential to pull in the crowds.

Both the SANFL and WAFL generally schedule the majority of games to avoid clashing with the AFL. The SANFL has its Grand Final re-match on the Anzac Day weekend whereas the WAFL has its Foundation Day Fremantle derby which is one of the state's great football traditions.

a weekly half an hour show would be super for all the diehards that still support grass roots footy, and i was hugely suprised with what can be called a terrible (for SA standards) crwod in the Gf...when over here in the west i belive our crowd was very very impressive with claremont and subi(2004 premiers ) have small supporter bases, but it did p*ss me off when u see all these bandwagon jumpers liek an odd 10000 subi fans that day, yet only a small 1500 can make it to the normal round games

I'm not bored with it. And I bet you wouldn't be if it were the Swans winning 4 premierships out of 5.

                        Regards,

                        10 Pound Pom from Lizbuf.

Well in 2002, the SANFL got 35,000 for a Centrals vs Sturt GF, and the WAFL got over 31,000 for an East Perth vs West Perth GF. I think it shows that interest in those leagues is still strong, but you need the teams with big support and an occasion to match it in order to draw a big crowd. And also pray for clear skies

Like David V I'd love to see more grassroots footy on TV. It's unlikely to happen to any great extent due to production costs, but a highlights show during the week may be workable.
The VFL, SANFL and WAFL matches of the week are televised live on their local ABC stations. In 2003 when Fox Footy had 2 channels they televised replays of those games nationally; so if that sort of footage can be made available to Fox Footy it may be able to be compressed into a combined highlights package.
The other league to be televised is the Sydney AFL on Fox Footy - that is a production put together by a small team of dedicated volunteers on a shoestring budget, but they do a great job. Fox Footy doesn't pay for the production, although they're more than willing to provide the airtime every week.
Unfortunately I doubt we'll see any other leagues televised - it would cost too much money to set up camera crews, commentators etc.

Anyway, some other league results from NSW (several of these results taken from Timelord's http://www.philsworld.com.au ) :
Sydney AFL premier division - North Shore
Sydney AFL Division 1 - Wollongong
Sydney AFL Division 2 - Sydney Uni Blue
Canberra District Division 1 - ANU
Canberra District Division 2 North - Goulburn Swans (in their debut season - we might have to get Destructive to go to one of their games next year and give us a match report)
Canberra District Division 2 South - Woden
                            Black Diamond AFL - Cardiff
                            Central West AFL - Bathurst
                            Coreen AFL - Wahgunyah
                            Farrar AFL - TRYC
                            Hume AFL - Holbrook
North Coast AFL - North Coffs Harbour
                            Northern Riverina AFL - Tullibigeal
Riverina AFL - Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong (original home of Daniel McPherson)
Sapphire Coast AFL - Batemans Bay
                            South Coast AFL - Bomaderry
                            Summerland AFL - Byron Bay
                            Tamworth AFL - New England

Well that would be a start, but I still think the state leagues warrant better coverage than only a highlights package every week, unless it's like the Monday night EPL show in which the biggest games of the weekend are given extended highlights.

The other league to be televised is the Sydney AFL on Fox Footy - that is a production put together by a small team of dedicated volunteers on a shoestring budget, but they do a great job. Well here's food for thought- up in Newcastle the local Newcastle Rugby League GF was televised. Up in Toowoomba the local TRL comp gets radio coverage IIRC.

Hence the case would be made for similar coverage to be given to leagues like the O&M, GVFL, NTFL, etc.
