Rebecca Wilson!!! AFL player gambling problem

    Quoted in Sunday tele
"A leading AFL player has found himself in a bit of a bind in recent weeks. the former star, who has seen better days, has a massive gambling problem. The club he was about to be traded to found out the extent of the problem, placing the whole deal in jeopardy.

WHO is it - any ideas??????

Almost half the players at all 16 clubs are big time gamblers!

The only one I can think of that can go into "former star" territory but still tradable was Lance Whitnall.?

Travis Johnstone would be my guess.

Didn't he also have some problems last year with Simon Beasly? Or was that other Melbourne boys?

(and is Travis really a former star?)

Unfortunately, as a Carlton supporter I guessed Lance straight away too...hope it wasn't him. I'd like to think we kept him because we wanted to, not because no-one would take him (Yeah right).

            Whitnall seems most likely.

A big chance it could be TJ (for he certainly has these problems), but then again Whitnall was closer to being traded.

Rebecca Wilson is hardly a credible source, probably saw a player going to by a Tatts/Lotto ticket therefore has gambling problems

How about Shane Crawford? Stepped down from the captainacy and was tradeable!

                  That's my guess!

with her brother being Jim Wilson, new addition to AW and a big Blues supporter, likely she gets good Carlton info. from him.

My mail from a pretty good source said that this person knew Johnston when he played against him in Under 18's, and he had a big drinking and gambling problem as an 18yo. Everyone in that fraternity knew.

I thought it was widely known that TJ was a huge gambler.

I don't want to be a kill joy, is there not a reason why Ms Wilson did not mention names? I wouldn't want anyone on here getting into trouble for a little inncocent speculation, particularly if you are speculating about the wrong person.

If you read the Melbourne papers a while ago, then yes it was widely known. But there are a lot of players that are gamblers.

The statement that confuses me is "former star". This usually indicates a player no longer playing. But, he was offered as trade. So who is a former star, would have to be the fat farm boy. Johnstone has never been a star, to be a former star.

Rebecca Wilson, that defensive driving guru! She been hanging around Wynyard Station lately looking for her latest scoop?

Anyone who is willing to write nameless rubbish like that should not be believed in the slightest until it can be substantiated.

Anyway, gambling would never stop a decent trade from proceeding so that "Bec The Eagle" should seek more interesting topics, like "Jana Pitman has fallen in love with a bucket of ice cream!"
