He was an arrogant prat in his early years, in my opinion... but he has grown into a statesman of the game more than any other player. You can't help but admire the way he plays.

I hated Hird for a long time, but I'm not too fussed now.

I went to the Essendon community camp dinner at Norths Leagues on Tuesday night. Hirdy of course was interviewed then, and indicated that he won't be playing for much longer. Unlike Sheeds, who looks to have the Essendon coaching job for life and shows no signs of wanting to give it away.
Hirdy's looking fit and doesn't seem to be showing any signs of injury, although he badly needs a haircut.
