7 and 10 have always been my dream TV partners for AFL, they both have a much better ability than Channel 9 to deliver broader AFL coverage to the northern states and also deliver such things as live Friday nights to the southern states instead of 8.30pm starts. -

Seven's track record on servicing the northern states is actually pretty ordinary. Only Ten have ever really made an effort.
Still, anything would be an improvement on Nine's attitude towards the Sydney market and if proper coverage - not just of the Swans but of the broader competition - were made a condition of the new rights agreement then I'd be happy with Seven and Ten.
Would prefer Fox to keep the pay TV rights - it is the only reason I subscribe to Fox. They seem to do a pretty decent job of it and are now the only channel who present any decent discussion / analysis programmes.Comment

Yeah 7 were average at times for the northern market, however I have a feeling that 7 and 10 are going to put together an offer to the AFL that will service the northern states like never before.Originally posted by liz

I wouldn't be surprised if the AFL actually took an offer that was slightly less appealing financially this time just to service to the northern markets properly.Comment

It's pretty irrelevant in WA too. It's mainly WCE and Freo on free-to-air and I can't see that changing. Fox Footy is the most important thing!Comment

How could anyone, especially in Sydney and Brisbane, want 9? Good riddance to Eddie and his biased commentary and also footy starting past midnight on Friday nights. Bring back Bruce and Sandy - I've missed those guys.Occupational hazards:

Eddie is actually Ok if he is not calling a Pies match. He gets a bit meladramatic with his excitement,trying to milk the moment for all its entertainment value. It is co-commentators Doug Hawkins and (especially) Garry Lyon who I can't stand. Moaning dorkish voices. Very little intelligent things to say. Dermie really stands out. Has an excellent football brain. And can see things that the coaches are trying to do. And EXPLAIN and DE-MYSTIFY them. He works best with Dennis "Cork in the ocean" Commetti, king of the quip and the one liner.
I'm cynical towards Channel 7's commitment to the game up here. But I guess they'd be no worse than Channel 9.
The only good thing about games on Channel 9 is that we never have have matches on Friday nights. I just hate the hassles of having to come from work. Or get the day off if we are interstate.
