    AFL bid to separate rights

THE TV rights for the AFL's home-and-away season could be sold separately to the finals in the next deal.

The unbundling of the free-to-air TV rights, which could see the season split into a clutch of premium packages, is one of many options being considered.
This would mean the end of prime-time footy in NSW.

It's only the leverage of the BIG games that allows the AFL to demand live games in NSW.

Is the AFL trying to stuff this up completely, or does it just come naturally?

Take everything you hear from the AFL over the next 6 months regarding the TV rights with a grain of salt.

Almost every combination will be floated in a bid to stimulate a contest a drive up the price.

Can't see the overall package changing that much, with probably the Pay TV rights being split from the FTA rights this time around.
