    Please Explain

I don't understand the new rules for the centre bounce. Whats with the second circle? Can anyone explain? Cheers.

Ruckmen have to start their runup within the outer circle before the bounce and no one else is allowed to enter the outer circle before then.

Ahh, I see, thanks. So why did they change the rules?

Mostly due to the prevalence of sometimes serious knee injuries to ruckmen (eg Gardiner, McDonald, Goodes) sustained from them banging their knees into each other as they ran and contested centre bounces. The theory is that with a shorter run-up they won't be able to elevate themselves and thus won't crash knees.

Oh, Ok. Thanks. I can't see that stopping knee injuries though...but time will tell of course!

The idea is that it reduces the speed they can build up which then reduces the force when they do crash into each other. but a lot of the ruckmen are finding it a bit frustrating, especially with bad bounces, as they have very little room to move in, which can hamper their play. Guess it's a bit of a trade off though...

Does anyone know if they are using this in most leagues now? Because i was very surprised when i saw my local ground in regional NSW with 2 centre circles.
