Sell some of the kids and use the proceeds to buy tickets for the others.

This is true and we've been via this method a few times. However, the first time it was $750/head, then last year it went up to $1300 (or maybe $1500) a head. Whilst the day is absolutely fabulous, and IMO well worth $1500 for two (if you've got that much around to spend on a break), we really baulked at the huge increase to watch a couple of teams that we don't necessarily like. Most attendes are corporate, and I guess the $$ don't matter that much.
If you have a Swans guaranteed GF seat (when we get there), then the best bet is to take that and then buy a seat at the breakfast (which is around $200) and a relative bargain.
Given that the list price of the GF ticket itself is around $80 (from memory, but even if it's $150), the meal (which is generally a hotel breakfast and not worth much) is worth say $50 at hotel rates, plus something for entertainment (we've seen Ernie Dingo, the Fat team, Scared Weird Little Guys - generally 2 - 3 acts) you can see that this must be a huge fund raiser for the club - and I guess good on them if they can get it.
