For one shot, the "G-Train" was clearly in express mode, using up only 17 seconds.
He was pobably right in front.

The average time is pretty useless, unless they tell you how far out they are kicking from. If a lot of Baz's kicks are 40m+ on angles, he will take longer than 10m out directly in front.

They need to break the average down by distnace to be fair to all.

Imagine the Siren has gone and Baz is lining up to kick the winner against Brisbane @ the Gabba.

    How do they call play???.

Thank the maker! Its about time they start cracking down on this. If I was a FB marking Lloyd and I got a mark against him in the defensive 50 I would be tempted to walk back - pull up the socks - have a stretch etc like Lloyd before kicking it. What could he do or say?

Btw re: Hall. An umpire friend said that if you put the ball on the ground after you mark it is play on. Obviously Hall always does this when going for goal. Did anyone notice when he was lining up from the sideline and he made sure he put the ball down - in play. I wonder if it would of been called out of bounds if he put it down outside of the line?

The set kick for goal is a significant part of the game and players should be allowed to do it right (although some abuse this privilege).

To get the extra time the player should have to declare to the ump that he is having shot for goal and then he MUST have a shot (ie he is not allowed to play on or dispose of the ball other than by a kick intended to go over the mark without giving away a free kick). The ump will stop the clock which will only start again as boot meets the ball.

A kick after the siren obviously has no time limit as play-on cannot be called.

Alternatively to the above - for a kick for goal a strict 60 sec (say) time limit could be imposed.

I have no problem with players taking a long time for a shot at goal as it is one of the most important kicks in the game. If they are going to take a long time the umpire should blow time on.
