    West Coast Eagles

Myself being an eagles supporter i am very happy with the way we have stared the season and i must say our win against brisbane today was the i have seen the boys play for a long time...

Judd, Cuz, Kerr, Fletcher, Braun have all been brilliant in midfield so far and have been well supported by the likes of youngsters Adam Selwood and Sammy Butler

Our defence in Chick, Wirrapunda and Glass have been rock solid and some good support form Brett Jones and Co.

Forward line is finally!!! starting to get into form with Fido getting 3 last week and big lynch getting 4 this week.

What are your thoughts on the eagles so far this season and how do you think they will go for the rest of the season???

    Cheers

Was very impressed with the Eagles today. As I mentioned in a thread about the Swans chances for next week, the Eagles seem to have a much more balanced lineup now. Plenty of midfield options, a few tall forwards (Gardiner, Lynch, McDougall) now meaning that Matera isn't the focus of all attack and can crumb which is what he does best, and an underrated defence that can create a lot on the rebound.

As is always the case, a few injuries to key players can cause things to unravel pretty quickly, but it seems like there is depth, and that the mid-range players are in good form at the moment.

Should finish top 4, especially with the Subi advantage. The big question at the moment is the finals form, although I get the feeling that if injuries don't strike, we will be seeing the Eagles deep into September this year.

    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

      It will only get worse.

Eagles are: (1) a real class act, and the only opposition to St Kilda as things stand (2) my second favourite team. My first AFL game was the day at Windy Hill that Sheedy tied the wind sock down.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

We have enough Swans supporters getting stuck into the team without having an interloper.
Anyway what are the chances of West Coast having to let some promising players go because of salary cap pressure?
We definitley need to get some quality somehow.

Both Wa teams have the huge advantage of the incredibly cheap cost of living in Perth. And being a footy town with only two teams in it, there are a great deal of sponsorship deals and extra revenue that can be earned on top of your footy salary. So $250000 in Perth has double the buying power of $250k here in Sydney.(NB-AFL!)

In Perth the Eagles are it as far as sporting teams go. Hence players are in massive massive demand.

Wouldn't mind that C Judd guy in our midfield.Except that his running style is reminiscent of a Thunderbird, I reckon. Or Wirrapunda in defence. How far can he roost it!

The Eagles will definitely make the finals under Worsfold. However it remains to be seen whether the long travel they have to do will start wearing them down by season's end.

It makes you wonder why they can have lean years. But can bounce back so strongly from that.

LOL - either that or we'd make him 'earn his dues' in the reserves for three years!!

A few things about the West Coast Eagles

                  A) They chose blue and gold as their colour scheme so that the chardie sippers from Claremont (Tigers) didn't have to change colours.

                  B) They only play their club song once after wins, because a sizeable percentage of their supporters do NOT know the words to it (no joke). More were singing along to "Eagle Rock' than "We're the Eagles, we're flying high".

                  C) The taped chanting at quarter & 3/4 time. "SGIO, Go Eagles Go!" Most disturbingly of all, many people actually join in when it is played. And we thought we had people at matches who had no idea about footy culture!

                  D) Their members have no voting rights or anything. The Eagles are little more than a franchise. Trevor Nisbet could do what he wanted with the club's money and all their supporter base would be none the wiser.

                  E) Giving kids supporter flags where a logo for Mite 10 is actually bigger than that of the club which they in theory are supposed to be supporting. Using young kiddies as pawns to big companies who are not even club sponsors is something i find highly offensive. Mass commercialism gone crazy.

                  F) "Messages on Hold signs". People planted in the ground behind the goals holding these stupid things up. Bloody joke, I say. Mass commercialism seems to be an Eagles forte.

                  G) The "Red Army". The last time I remembered the Eagles played in blue and gold. Yet they have this group of peanuts in red shirts so as to get exposure for Carlton MidStrength beer. Again highly unsavoury over-corporatism. You getting the feel for this club now kids?

                  F) Giving their Cheer Squad banners (again NOT in club colours) with slogans like "Hungry for Success" and "Whopper Goal". Fellas, at least have them in your club colours for crying out loud. (As if Hungry Jacks needed extra exposure, by the way )

If this club is the future of football, God help the game, I swear!
