yeah Warney's wage and phone bill costs should cover the rights!

Absolutely - replays at 10.30pm do not comprise "live or near-live" broadcasts!

And the AFL would be silly to believe 9 anyway - they have made no effort to get FNF on any earlier over the last few years. It could be on at 10.30 now but it's usually closer to 12.00 thanks to the league guys chatting away for an extra half hour and then the news.

If Nine were serious about it, they would allow Foxtel to cover the Friday night games live in the Northern states as of now.

The AFL would be silly to give 9 the rights, they have made it clear with their deal with the NRL (2 games on a Friday night) that they have no interest in the games development, their only interest is in using the Southern/Western states as cash cows.

That is fine, they are a business, but not what the AFL needs from broadcasting over the next 5 years.

Eddie commentating on Collingwood games.. hell Eddie commentating on any game gives me the @@@@s. For this reason and the fact that we get screwed royally with screen time, I really hope the 7/10 consortium gets up.

Watch this space. Nine will team up with SBS for live games on Fri night into Northern states.

Just came across this article from Sheeds about the TV situation - I think he has it spot on!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Love him or hate him, you have to admire that he really does luv footy & only wants what's best for the game.

Compare that to Eddie who you know every time he makes a comment about footy has only the interests of Collingwood at heart. Indeed as Sheeds notes, sometimes Eddie only has the interests of kerry or Eddie at heart.

Good article & I wholeheartedly agree. The footy code war has not been won yet.
