Can't wait for Channel 9 to lose TV rights

Thankfully for my sanity I have a mute button - was there something we got in another life that means we have to put up with Dwayne Russell. Listening to he and Dermott is like listening to a conversation over a lost set of keys.

Dear god get rid of 9 their coverage is shocking.

    I quite like Ten's coverage

Dwayne has a big enough head as it is, without his self assumed fame going to his head. There is a fair chance he is well up himself.

Then again there is this tosser on the Geelong/North game who keeps saying when a player is tackled that he is "ragged dolled". Who is he?

    Boring stuff.

I also hope Seven get the TV rights back - have had enough of nine and those that come with it shall we say.
      Love those Swans

I'm the opposite, I much prefer C9's coverage to C10's, although I am a fan of Robert Walls - he would have to be one of the best commentators going around. You've gotta take Brereton and Russell with a pinch of salt, but they're ok. Still, C7 is my preference...

Dennis Commetti can walk into any network he wants, and Garry Lyon and James Brayshaw aren't too bad... but I won't shed any tears when Brereton, Russell and Eddie are no longer commentating.

I used to love Tim Lane and Dwayne Russell when they were on radio as their word play was fantastic, but it hasn't transferred to TV. Or maybe they aren't allowed to indulge in it as it wouldn't suit the audience(as in not understanding their references). Even Dennis Cometti has to tune his film, music, literature references down for the TV audience. Call me a snob but that is what happens when you live in the poorest part of the state that is the poorest state in Australia. We expect our commentators to be intelligent.

I like Commetti, even though he does need a colour larrikan type colour man beside him to make the call seem 'fuller'. People like doug Hawkins and Garry Lyon do not do it for me though; they are inarticulate oafs who should not be put near a microphone.

I just find the Channel 10 call refreshing. Michael Christian, Tim Lane and Anthony Hudson are pleasant and enthusiasic callers. I can even handle SOS and Quartermain too. Far less jingoistic than Eddie and co.

I want Channel 10 to have the lot. I do not Channel 7 with the rights again. I am an elephant who chooses not to forget over 20 years of neglect towards not only the Swans but AFL football in general (especially at night).

Nobody can guarantee me that Channel 7 will ever in a million years put a match on a Friday night at 7:30-8:30. Until we get in in writing that Channel 7 SYDNEY will be prepared to do this, I will remain steadfast in my opposition to Channel returning to cover AFL football.

                  Hate C9

These days I don't get road rage (accept the inevitable) but I do get TV football rage. The house reverberates to yells of "Get the camera back!" The nongs who decide on the pictures we get seem to assume that we want as many close-ups as possible. I don't. I want to see the field position. Am I fooling myself when I think it was better in the good old days of C7?
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Have to agree on this one - at times it was impossible to tell where the ball was going because of the number of closeups

The camera-work on C9 is truly appalling there are so many times they either completely miss it or the angle means you have no idea what direction the ball is going. Sometimes it is hopeless, I would think I would have to let go with "nice camerawork" 5-10 times a game.

I can never remember this happening on C7. Good riddance C9.

I could never watch their coverage if not for my own team, it is just appalling

IIRC C7 used a lot fewer cameras

On watching the replay last night - my daughter commented on the commentators Dwayne Russell, Dermot and Cometti - all they talked about were other sports for most of the time - Cricket, Basketball, Soccer and Golf.

Unbelievable they are - think I will write to nine and say we all used our mute button it was dreadful and how unprofessional they were.

I don't think there's any "may" about it. The rend in sports broadcasting is to more and more cameras.

This can be good as long as they are used wisely. I like a mix of long shot and close up but I agree with the earlier comment that sudden switching of camera direction can be confusing. The alternative camera should be primarily limited to replays, set shots, etc.

C9's experiment with flycam (or whatever they called it) was a mixed success. One positive thing was they could (almost) always get a camera directly behind a set shot but the attempts at tracking shots were awful. Again, interesting as a replay but not for live action. The actual picture quality was also much lower than the regular cameras - very noticable on digital TV.
