    Origin

What do people on here think about having a sort of 'State of Origin' competition introduced into AFL?

It could be Victoria vs the rest?
    Traditional NSW vs QLD?

    What do you think
And the man who started it, the Schneiderman, can kick his third for the quarter. And the swans are in the Grand Final!

All been done b4. it died in the butt a few years ago.

Used to have The Big V, SA, WA, then introduced the Allies, which was a combination of the rest of the states.

Nobody went, nobody cared. Players used to pull out with minor injuries, so they would be right for the H&A games.

I always found S.O.O. AFL pretty boring.

The Premiership cup was always far more significant.

It's kind of funny that in League it's almost the other way around.
All these Leaguies nearly shoot their load at this time of year.
I guess it's because it's the best example of the game in the world you get during the year.
The premiership is almost just a formality at the end of the season.

You're kidding aren't you? I reckon some of the SOO games were the best games of footy I've ever seen. And there was real passion there too.

I think it's a brutal shame they died - I blame Malthouse who showed no interest whatsoever in letting the Eagles players participate.

I think a showpiece game of he best talent in the land at Telstra Stadium would be a HUGE buzz for the game in Sydney.

If my memory is right the SOO concept came from the
VFL/WANFL/SANFL/TFL long before it was adopted by
Rugby League. It was an effort to make interstate games
competitive. I recall Victoria slaughtering WA by 28 goals with
WA scoring 3 goals for the game before the SOO concept
          was introduced.

Yep, first game was in late 70s at Subi - & the West Aussies won after being belted by the Vics for years. All those WA blokes that had starred for Vic in the past (Moss, Cable) made the diference

Maybe in Victoria but they were mad about it in SA back in the 70's and 80's, drawing huge crowds for the SA v Vic game.

In the 90's crowds dropped off severely, thus the demise of the SOO. SA started the Kick a Vic campaign to try to get it going. And Ted Whitten tried his best to keep it going here, but when playing for your team meant more than an SOO, they shu it down.

I agree. There was nowhere near the passion from either the players or the fans.
