    Players should take their bumps

An intersting HUN article from Bucks.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

They better not let this game get too much softer, I know a lot of almost converts who are appauled at the lack of the physical in our game.

IMO, the bump should be laid legitimately if the objective is to remove an opposition player (who is indeed IN THE CONTEST)from the contest, hence giving your team an advantage at the ball (within 5 metres).

Now, I am in agreement with Carey on the Stenglein incident because he was legitimately removing an opposition player out of a ball contest, in fact he was almost just standing his ground.

The Ball/Shattock (Shats - love calling him that) incident was slightly different. Not only did "Shats" leave the ground and it was high, Ball was never really in a position to be in the contest. If Ball was closing in on the carrier, then different story.

Ball had no chance to brace himself for the contact because he was physiologically miles from the contest even though he was only 5 to 7 meteres from the ball being scooted away by a Port player. The Port player had a massive start and there was too much traffic for Ball to negotiate. Shats creamed him in the most cowardly way.

Lets face it, Rhys-Jones and Dermott might have thought great hit if they were on the paddock, but the game has changed and even Dermott recognised it on Sunday. He had Shats penciled in for trouble from the moment he hit the deck!
