    Geelong's ugly win

Seems we're not the only culprits:

But the press will probably excuse them.

Why do Sydney people think the Melbourne clubs are never criticised?

Adelaide have played some very dull games this year. They are worse than Sydney for it.

Ah, master of old eye rolling - how that relates to my comment I'm not sure.

Adelaide have been criticised for poor play. However, they've managed to kick 19 goals more than us this season, so that helps limit the damage. Of course, playing ugly and losing tends to incite more comments, whereas Adelaide have been in the eight for most of the season.

Geelong does tend to avoid the criticism a little more than the other clubs down here. All of the clubs are within 30 minutes reach for any footy journo in Melbourne... except for Geelong. They tend to avoid the scrutiny due to that fact alone, which Sheahan et al readily admit to. Mike did give their forward line a bit of a roast in this morning's HS, though. In general - for the Melbourne clubs the focus is intense.

I wasn't telling them - I was asking a question why as I've observed that a lot of Sydney people on this site make that comment. I also noticed it was something people said when I was living up there too.

A lot? I don't recall anyone saying that Melbourne clubs are never criticised - surely only one or two people have said that if at all.

I also noticed it was something people said when I was living up there too.
In what context? No-one who knows anything about footy would seriously say that - the papers and footy shows are filled with criticism of most sides.

Our argument is that pretty much all of the critricism of us has come from people like Walls and Blight who hardly ever watch us play. That's just poor journalism and Victorian sides would seldom have to put up with comments like "isn't it time that Ling decided to add some extra dimensions to his game rather than just being a tagger?".

Perhaps not a lot, but certainly more than a few people have complained here that Melbourne clubs are not criticised as much. As I've pointed out before, and as you say, Melbourne clubs are under the spotlight a great deal.

Poor journalism is a worthwhile thing to complain about, but not that we get scrutinised more than other clubs.

I think the trouble with Melbourne Journos on Sydney, is that they mainly write about the negative stuff, not the positive stuff, coz, like Geelong, they are not there, in Sydney to see for themselves. They may watch the game on TV, but, as we know, it only gives the small picture of the game.
