    International Footy, IC 2005

    For those who may find the idea of foreigners playing God's game interesting if not curious, the AFL is hosting the second International Cup in and around Melbourne from 3/8 - 13/8.

    For a full fixture of matches go here.

    In 2002, Ireland ran out winners against PNG at the MCG. This year ought to be a much tougher run for the Irish as many of the developing countries have made huge strides in their standard of play. Teams like Great Britain, Canada, US and Japan are all far superior sides.

    In addition, it may be an opportunity to meet some legends of the game as guys like Alan Jeans, Ron Barassi, Bobby Skilton, and many more who's names escape me were at the grounds. I saw Barassi at 4 of our matches in 2002.

    Anyway, if you're not insulted by the concept go out and have a look. It might surprise you how foreigners are playing your game.

    I just stumbeld across the AFL Canada site and it looks like the Sydney Swans are the host team for Canada in August. There team colours are the same as ours (Red & White ) and the are called the NorthWind.

    Have a look;

          The PNG Mosquitos!!!!

          Nobnob will be pleased!!!

          Should be interesting to see if there is any "real" talent out there from these other countries, seeing as some teams are already looking outside Oz for talent, and not just Ireland.
