    Neon Leon

Good on him for telling Rez where to stick his 'supposed' apology

Slip of the tongue, get real

When will relics like Hunt realize it is not ok to use outdated racist sayings. Then try and fob it off as some kind of mistake not intended

Anyone who thinks Rex's comment was an intentional racial slur has it completely wrong.

It was clear to me that Rex got caught up in his usual style of wanting a funny label put on a player as he does with all players, black or white. How many greek players has Rex taken the piss out of and how many have had him in front of a tribunal.

Rex played with and has and does admire Aboriginal players and done so for over 35 years.

Rex has had 1,000 more positive and neutral contacts with Aboriginal people than most of his accusers will ever have.

Are we really to believe that he would paint himself a villian for no good reason, on air!

Lets get real, this matter will be sewn up and forgotten by Sunday night!

I don't think it was a racial slur. Just him being over the top as usual.

It's a night match - he uses his standard "It's as black as a dog's guts here!" comment.

Davis kicks a goal. Rex yells out "Neon Leon". Clinton Grybas says "Leon lights up the night sky!"

Davis struggles later. In keeping with metaphor of lighting up the night sky, the light has gone out and it is dark. So Leon is no longer Neon.

Rex says "'Neon Leon's' as black as a dog..." doesn't finish the metaphor realising it's come out wrong.

Davis should accept his apology and realise it was an unintended mistake, and get on with trying to actually play a few good games of football in a row.

For details refer Connolly's article in The Age.

Rex Hunt's also said that he can understand how his comments would have upset someone who is aboriginal. So why hasn't Leon got a right to be disappointed or upset by them? The talks that are going to be held between them are at Leon's request with the main aim to make Rex see it from his point of view. I think he's entitled to do that regardless of how the comments were meant.

I agree WF - Hunt has an obligation to understand that this simply isn't acceptable & Davis has a right to let Hunt know exactly what it feels like to be in his shoes when this sort of thing happens.

Racism, is racism, is racism, kinda proves the point doesn't it ?

Or were they slips of the tongue also ?
